On this date in history, Feb 18th:

In 1948 Eamon De Valera resigns as the prime minister of the Independent Ireland.

Pluto, the 9th planet, is discovered in 1930. I found this part interesting. The planet was thought to exist because of disturbances in the orbits Neptune and Uranus. After the planet was discovered it was thought that it wasn’t big enough to cause the disturbances. It was only when Pluto’s moon Charon was discovered that it was realized that between them they had enough mass.

J. Robert Oppenheimer, know as the father of the A-bomb, dies in 1967.

In 1943 the Nazis arrest two leaders of “Weisse Rose” the White Rose, Hans Scholl and his sister Sophie, a youth group that opposed the Nazis.
