Emerald Scale Model Championship
1 – 3 September 2006

1. Introduction:

It has been quite a while that the IPMS SA Vaal Branch have contemplated hosting a scale model championship. The fact that the Africa Militaire will not take place in Pretoria during September 2006 as anticipated, has opened a gap in the modelling calender that begs to be filled. A lot of modellers have been preparing for both the IPMS SA Nationals in Bloemfontein and the Africa Militaire. The last big modelling event in the northern part of the Country was the 2004 Africa Militaire. It is therefore that IPMS SA Vaal Branch has organized a modelling event over the weekend of 1 – 3 September 2006 at the Emerald Casino & Resort, Vanderbijlpark.

2. The venue:

The Emerald Casino & Resort is situated on the banks of the Vaalriver, 40 minutes drive away from Johannesburg, in Vanderbijlpark. The Resort boasts a large variety of attractions including a luxury Hotel, Casino, indoor swimming pools, Ten-pin bowling, mini-golf, rock climbing, game drives, a zoo, bird sanctuary, restaurants and chalets situated in a serene environment. The Sports Centre, a secure hall encompassing 3 138 m2 of display area, and situated on the resort premises, offer the perfect venue to host the first ever Emerald Scale Modelling Championship. The center also boasts facilities to cater for the hungry as well as thirsty modellers attending this event.

3. The scale model championship

Entries are open to all modellers in three classes namely Seasoned, Novice and Junior. This is done to accommodate all levels of proficiency as well as those modelers who do not belong to any of the modeling clubs. Entry fee of R 10, 00 with an unlimited number of entries.

Entries will be judged according to IPMS rules and prizes awarded for first, second and third place as well as commended models in the different categories.

Best Sci-Fi
Best Ship
Best Newcomer
and Best of Show.
Sponsors have been secured for specific prizes.
Entries can be submitted via e-mail to [email protected] untill 2006-08-20. All entries to be in by 15:00 on the 1st September 2006.

I spoke to Dennis at length last night and it sound like it is goingto be fantastic!!

It sounds like it is going to be bigger then anything I've ever attended in S.A. on modelling.
