Hi all,

I've got to write an essay on something related to logistics in English for school.

So, to make it interesting for myself, I'd like to write something about logistics in the military.

Does anyone know where I can find nice articles about developments in the logistics used by an army? Or anything else which could be interesting.

Remember it has got to do something with logistics, because of my study (logistics and economy).

Thanks in advance,
Martin

Well wasn't it Napoleon who said 'An army marches on its stomach'? I'd suggest a quick google for military logistics and the like. Good luck!

There was a section, as well as several references, in the book The Sling and the Stone: On War in the 21st Century by Col. Thomas X. Hammes. The books general premise is to trace the evolution of warfare, If your library has access to it, it may not be a bad idea to take a look and see if there's anything in it that may help you.

Martin you may want to look at some articles pertaining to the Gulf war (Invasion of Kuwait). I did come across an article detailing how for all intent and purposes the Gulf war was one won by logistics. In a way its true considering how countries like US managed to move tons and tons of equipment and manpower half a continent a way in so short a time. and kept them fed for months.

Sorry I couldn't locate that article again. However, if you do want to look at development of logistics and warfare through the ages, a peek at Sun Tzu art of war maybe a good starting point as they are several references to logistics and battle field success.

Googling something like history of military logistics should pull up lots of interesting things.

Don't forget that the Romans didn't just use roads, water transport is far more efficient than ox-carts.
