This date in history Feb 13th.

In one of the more controversial acts of WWII the Allies start to bomb the city of Dresden with a huge raid by the RAF. Over the next two days both the RAF and USAAF attack the city.

William and Mary are proclaimed joint sovereigns of Great Britain in 1689.

In 1861 army surgeon Colonel Bernard J.D. Irwin performed the first action that would result in a United States Medal of Honor. Although the M.O.H. was not created until 1862, and Irwin wasn’t awarded it until 1894, this was the first action deemed worthy of the award. Dr Irwin led 14 men 100 miles into Apache territory to rescue 60 trapped soldiers.
