Tonite on the History Channel, they are airing a documentary about the 761st and other African American units serving in WW 2. Since I have access to a totally decaffeinated version of the HC, I really would appreciate if one of you guys in the 50 states would record this documentary for me. The best way to do it would be on VHS (I have a multi-function VCR which plays all formats). Obviously i'll pay all costs of tapes, postage etc.... Thanks, Jim

I think it's on at 20.00 Est..

Jim I don't have access to a VCR but would a DVD work for you? If so it's a done deal.

I just searched my TV guide. I am not seeing the show you mentioned.

6pm-7pm- USS Indianapolis
7-8- Modern Marvels: Lumberyards
8-10- DDay The Lost Evidence
10-11- Heroes Under Fire: The Great Raid
11-midnight- Pacific: The Lost Evidence

midnight-2am- repeat DDay The Lost Evidence
2am-3am- repeat Heroes Under Fire

I don't think any of those match in my viewing area

I was just going to post I didn't see anything on it either. I think you mean the show Honor Deferred. On this side of the pond it's showing at 6:00pm mountain time, or 10:00 pm mountain, Saturday Feb 11.

I am certainly going to be watching this show, and may also put it on DVD. America is a fantastic country, and I'm very proud to be an American, but every American should be ashamed of the way the African-American soldiers were treated in WWII. They certainly deserved far better than their treatment before, during, and after the war.

Since we are in the History Forum, might I suggest:

Foxholes & Color Lines: Desegregating the US Armed Forces by Mershon & Schlossman

The Right to Fight: A History of African Americans in the Military by Astor

There are other books, one specific to Korea, but I do not have their titles at hand ...

Much of the military treatment of blacks reflected the general societal values of the time, but in the long run, the military (oft with civilian pressure) made faster strides than did the civilian side ...

One book I want to pick up, or at least check out at the library, is Brothers in Arms by Kareem Abdul-Jabar.
