I went to a poolee* event a few weekends ago to the nite vision lab in Quantico(which was an amazing experience) and after we arrived at the recruiting office one of the poolees popped out a question about the USMC crucible, the "final test" of bootcamp before graduation. She asked if the Crucible had been phased out, and one of the Staff Sergeants said yes, the cruicible had been phased out, this was a big surprise to me, and my dad especially.
I looked on the internet, military.com, marines.com and usmc.mil and couldnt find anything, surprisingly.
Does anyone know anything about this? I hope I didn't completely mishear that question:-)
thanks

*Poolee events are where all the prospective recruits (either not enlisted, or already enlisted, like myself) get together and do something that Marines might experience while in the fleet.

Shain,
Haven't heard one way or another. But, I'm not totally surprised. Military has been doing away with programs like Top Gun and Red Flag as cost savings measures for years. Navy had a similar program to Crucible, I suspect that they were both high stress, low safety events and someone got hurt. Brass might have done away with them before they got sued.

Isnt that the final test of what being a Marine is all about? Getting rid of the crucible would be like the SEaLs getting rid of Hell Week...

Thats basically the premise, its a 54(54?50 something right?) hour field test each platoon goes (I guess in this case went) through.
