As I don't do PC games, I'm going to have go back to the dice and figures/counter age...

Faves
1. Squad Leader - AH classic
2. Firefight - 70s/80s classic allegedly used to train US Army officers, when we played my Red Hordes always won
3. Combat Commander rules - my Chieftains ruled the table

Unfaves
1. Wargames Research Group rules - more time manoeuvring round the rule book than the table

You cant spell Vietcong? all you were missing was a c...
I assume by medel of nonur.european asslat you mean medal of honour european assault?
Brothers in arms earned in arms, is this a quirky sequal to "brothers in arms earned in blood"?

I only do pc, my Number 1 would have to be Vietcong, 2 would have to be Battlefield1942 w/ Forgotten Hope, and number 3 would be a tie between Operation Flashpoint, and Soldiers: Heroes of WW2.

Cheers

Yeah, Squad Leader rules. Still have mine and the Cross of Iron expansion. One of these days I will pick up Cresendo of Doom and Anvil of Victory on EBay. It sucks AH folded. I need rules for "MBT" and can't find them anywhere.

Anyway, for all you Squad Leader fans out there, download "Steel Panthers World at War." It is a free turn based game just like Squad Leader. I play by email with my brother. Trust me, you will be amazed that it is free.

Well my top games are rated by fun-factor, not nessecerily (David I can't spell neither) realism.

1 - Call of Duty (CoD, CoD:UO, CoD2)
2 - Codename: Panzers (Phase 1 and 2)
3 - Soldiers: Heroes of WWII

Good:
-- SSI did the original Steel Panthers series and the Pacific scenarios were really great. SPWAW has picked that up and continues the traditon, as mentioned above.
-- Talonsoft did the BattleGround series, very similar, and again the Pacific scenarios in Rising Sun were geat. Matrix is re-issuing this whole series & it should be great.
-- My current favorite is Silent Hunter III by Ubisoft -- German subs in WW2. I let it run while modeling which can get real interesting when the aircraft/escorts are attacking & I've got my hands full of parts & CA ....

Bad:
-- None, I simply don't play what I don't like .... I don't do flight sims or 1st per shooters and am absolutely uninterested in complexity or bookkeeping any more ....

I did the board gaming thing a long time ago (60-80's), to include play-by-mail via AHIKS. There were so many good/bad games, who can keep track ? I do have a copy of Richard Berg's North African Campaign, if anyone wants to talk unplayable ...

Oh boy...lemme se.

SSI had some great titles-Mech Brigade provided many hours of entertainment (not sure how accurate it is), Overrun & Fighter Command (SSI again) also provided a lot of entertainment. Grey Seas, Grey Skies (Simulations Canada) was good as well- no graphics but good game. Arghhhh there were a couple of NATO vs. Warsaw Pact games I played quite a bit as well but can't remember the names.

Board Games- Firefight (SPI) -great game, Squad Leader (AH), the old AH Midway all provided many hours of entertainment...if only I had the time and spac I still have 20-30 board games I'd like to have a go at. Victory Games Fleet Series, GDW's WW3 & Tactical Series of 1980s NATO vs. Warsaw Pact games...

For the long hours of amusement that he gave me I have a debt with the classic wargame of Avalon Hill Russian Campaing also with many of the classics of the golden era of Spi games and their magazine Strategic&Tactics.

Was games with some basic rules that could be played in one afternoon the graphics they were clear and functional

of the computer games SPWAW is one of my favorite ones although I would like that the graphics were a little but upgraded.

best whises

Agree that AH's Russian Campaign (TRC) was a classic ... played that many, many times ...

Another great one was AH's Kingmaker, but it had to be played f-t-f with a group of neat guys & tankards of ale ... what a hoot ...

Other good boardgames:
-- the original Battleline Air Force / Dauntless / Expansion Kit (WW2 a/c combat) -- we used to do 40-player games PBM & had a ball ...
-- the BattleLine Wings (WW1)
-- the AH Panzer Blitz & Panzer Leader -- much simpler than SL ... you could play a small game 1-1 or get a group of guys together & throw together multiple sets to make some semi-monster ...

But for computer Games, my two favorites were the entire Myst series and the 2-game Syberia series ...

Howdy fellas,

Best and worst games huh?.....I can only speak to PCgames since I don't have the thumb strength of my 9-year old son when it comes to console gaming......

Across the board, I would have to say BF42...bought Battlefield2 and was dissapointed to find out I was corraled into playing multi ONLY on Gamespy!.......don't like being covertly limited like that....

Being an old pilot I must also say that the major attraction of the original BF42 was indeed, the ability to fly the aircraft as well as 'run-N-gun'. The WWII aircraft dynamics were pretty good, and fairly accurate {except for the inaccurate weapons load}
At the moment I am actively searching for a good WWI flight sim game. And, if I ever find it.....I'll let you know

Tread.

Oh, BTW...COD:2 is excellent in Single player mode because of the advanced {and adaptable} A.I. Multiplayer is quite cool too, the only problem is; the players out there are GOOD!!

Having played X-box for a couple of years, IMHO there are no good war games, they all channel you through the same scenarios, most of them allow minimal tactical and strategic input from the player.

Board games,... ASL, (still available from MMP) best enjoyed with someone who knows the rules (saves you a lifetime of rule interpretation!)

Frank

EDIT: IL2 and Pacific Fighters are the finest flight simulators out there, just wish my computer didn't crash everytime the action heated up!

Battlefield 2 has to be one of the best games to date-awsome gameplay, superb graphics-just general fun.
I also loved Delta force 'blackhawk down' on PS2

I think spec ops was pretty rubbish, and shellshock Nam 67-just a lot of mindless shooting.

I can't comment on the current versions of them, and they are Online Multi-Player (100+) Games, but Aces High and Warbirds are good. I have waaay more experience in Aces High. Very immersive, a very demanding user base keeps the developers on the ball. The "boss" of Aces High is a guy I played AirWarriors with/against 15+ years ago, he is dedicated to delvering a first rate product!

Like I say I haven't played for some time but I can onl imagine it has improved.

Let us know ....

IMHO, the original Dynamix "Red Baron" was it !!! I spent hundreds of hours with it & had a absolute ball. The mission builder allowed one to make up just about anything & legions of us on Compuserve created missions, ran contests, etc, etc ... Yeah, maybe areodynamics & a/c fidelity weren't 100%, but ease of use & fun were definitely over the top ...

Unfortunately it just won't run on the newer Windows computers -- I think the last time I tried, I got most of it going, but not my brand-new fancy Thrustmaster HOTAS ...

RB-3D, even with all the mods, just isn't the same.

RB3D? One of my all-time favorites! The callsign I use is from my ol' squadron days with the RAC (online WW1 flight sim squadron)

Favorites...

1) IL2 Sturmovik series (FB, AEP and PF)
2) Silent Hunter 3
3) CoD 1 & 2
4) Falcon 4.0: Allied Force

With you on that one John, it was GREAT, as was Close Combat 3.

Oddly I enjoyed Flashpoint, Vietcong, Delta Force series and Commandos 1 & 2 (haven’t got 3 yet). Obviously MOH series is way up there on my enjoyed list. For some reason after a few crappy Flightsims I’ve gone off them, I have IL2 Sturmovik (present from a friend) but still haven’t loaded it.

Close Combat 1&2 just didn’t cut it for me, busy with 4&5, but it’s like walking through treacle, Hidden and Dangerous and SPEC OPS also didn’t make it with me.
