Hello Everyone. I would like to introduce myself. I am Richard and I hail from Malaysia. My interest are in AFV WWII, so I guess I am joining a huge crowd over here who models in this era.
I began modeling at a very young age with Airfix and Monogram, mainly WWII planes and some Jets, but left the hobby after about 7 years, to persue other interest. I know my story is like so many others, who have found a renewed love affair with scale modeling.
I got back into the game in 2002, but that lasted only for a year before taking up golf. Now, I think I wasted my time with golf and hopefully this time round, with the help of ppl in this group, I will stay on till I can't do this no more due to old age.
I bought a number of kits from Tamiya in 2002 and lately I have bought some from Dragon, and some stuff from Verlinden as well. Building my first tank in years, a Tiger 1 Late Command by Dragon. Must say, they are not an easy kit like Tamiya to build. But man, are they realistic.
I have just put on the primer and painted the base color with an airbrush. I put that on hold yesterday to try and paint figures, following the Verlindens way. I think I have done it wrong. It don't look nearly as good as those in the pictures. In fact, my figures are starting to reveal the base coat. I am a dufus when it comes to painting. Figures are essential in any diorama base, and if I don't get my act together, I will be displaying tanks that just rolled of the factory floor :-)
I think I will have a ton of question to ask you and I hope you guys don't mind some stupid ones thrown in.
Have a good day,
Cheers,
Richard

It was once said that golf was a good walk ruined...hehe. Have a good peruse about figure painting here, as I'm sure there is a more successful method than the Verlinden way for you... Oh, no such thing as a stupid question either... Now, I think I wasted my time with golf

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I am glad to see that there is no such things as a stupid question posted here in this forum. Cos I have a ton of them.
Yeap, I do agree that the Verlinden way is not the only way, but thats the only book I have for figure painting. The System. I used to have one by Shepard Paine, but thats all ruined, its a very old book.
As for posting some pics, maybe on my second tank, not this one, as I would be too embarrass. I made too many mistakes, I think the best way to display this tank is with full camouflage of foliage and perhaps a whole tree tied to the side of it :-) That was before I realize they have thin cement, though I think it wouldn't have mattered.
But, I shall not give up. Must perservere.

Hi Richard,
To put an avatar, go to the top of your screen and click on "my account".
It'll bring you to a page where you can "Update Password/Profile". Click on it and you'll be at another page.

Welcome Richard!
As long as your having fun, then your in the right zone and it's still a hobby. This site is the motherlode of info, tips, ideas, and examples.A rather nice world.
As far as golf goes,I've got to get back to spraying balls around again in order to work some fat off my butt :-)
cheers!
