Well out here today was the 1st day of deer. Now usually I take my .308 but this year I’m trying the old .30-06. It’s a bolt action and mounts the same 2.5 to 8 power scope as my .308.

Well I saw 6 deer, fired 5 rounds, and didn’t get a dang thing. My dog even did better then me.

See I went with a friend of mine up to are one friends place. As we were walking in a deer jumps up out of the brush next to us but it was still to dark to see the crosshairs so it got away.

I stayed near where we saw it at and the land owner went down the path a bit and up onto a hill. My other buddy followed the path to the end in a field.
Now where I was sitting I could watch 2 open fields and I would be able to hear if anything came into the brush behind me.

Well I sat there awhile ( probably 2hr) and my one buddy asked over the radio if I had seen anything. I told him I hadn’t and waited to see if he had anything else to say. He didn’t so I tossed the radio back into my pocket. Now this apparently scared a buck that had come into the brush while I was listening to the radio.

I pulled up put the crosshairs right on his hart and couldn’t find the safety. See the rest of my rifles have it in front of the trigger. I forgot this thing has it up on the bolt. So I had to look dow to find it. Got it switched off and found the deer in the scope again and just as I pulled the trigger it ran down into a dip. I shot right over its back. I also so that the deer in the scope hade no rack.

There was a doe running right behind the buck but by now the buck had ran behind some higher brush. I did manage to fire a 2nd round off at the doe but ended up missing again.

The land owner fired as well but missed.
We didn’t see anything else there.

Well me and the one buddy left there and went down below his house.

There I was back in the woods at the bottom of a hill. Well after awhile 2 deer come runing at top speed across the top of this hill. I fired at the 1st on and missed. I know I had missed as it didn’t slow down, jump, or even flinch.

I fired at it agin with out aiming as well and missed. They ran out of sight and I noticed a 3rd deer following them. Now this thing was little. But I thought what the heck and fired at it. Well after discovering I had missed them all I didn’t see any more deer.

Except for that little one. My buddys brother shot it. Then we made fun of him for shooting such a small deer.

Any how after I got home my dog came running up to the house with a deer hart in his mouth. I cooked it and me and the dog had it for supper.

I think I’ll do things different in the morning.

Thanks Francois.

I usually use a shotgun for squirrel myself. Actually just got done eating some for supper.

Sadly it was raining pretty hard today so I decided to stay in. But that didn’t stop me from hunting. :-)
Even have a picture of it

Thats one good thing about living in the woods.

HI, Sometimes things jyst go that way. "Some days you get the bear and some days the bear gets you."

Pray with a little tobacco to the Great Spirit and ask his blessing to take one of his 4-legged children for your table to feed your family this winter. Maybe he will be kind and bless your rifle and your luck.

Take care, Sgirty
