its a 1/72 revell kit, mal. and a really nice one at that. it has nice recessed panel lines, nicely detailed interior. i was in two minds about the p/e, BUT.... the canopy was awful, very thick looking hard to see through plastic, so its been replaced by a vac item and while im getting that i might as well order the p/e stuff..........sound familiar? this is likely to be my MOM entry for january 2006 and maybe i'll enter it in the nats next year!

Sounds great and it's difficult to tell it's only 1/72. Do you know what category in which to enter it

Looking good so far Phil. The cockpit looks quite detailed. I have enough trouble with1/48 P.E, so i'd hate too think how small 1/72 is :-) .
My night fighter build (Nakajima C6N1Myrt) has run into a stumbling block. I bought 10 pots of Mr Color paints in varying Japanese colours and found i can't thin it with anything other than Mr Color thinner , which i can only find from online store Squadron

its funny you should say that nigel! due to all my other builds waiting for paint to arrive, i've spent tonight putting on the hood, which was really awkward due to the fact it has to sqeeze together like the real one when its open

Hey Phil.
That 190 is looking sweet.
How is the Revell kit OOB without the PE?
My 190 D is looking a bit lonely and I think it needs an earlier model 190 for company.
Hate to break it to you but I think youve missed MOM Jan 2006 with this one :-)

what was i thinking!
this kit is a little cracker, apart from the canopy which is dire, i took it with me to milton keynes along with one from a revell He 177 that you can hardly see through. as i posted above this kit would be exellent oob, but while i,m ordering a vac canopy i might as well order an etch set
p.s. can you spot the p/e part i forgot about underneath the wing!

Hi Phil.
Yeah,,shopping for bits is fatal isnt it.The old,"while Im at it",,,lol.
Yes I did spot the flaps on the PE sheet, but didnt comment as I didnt know they were for the 190.
Also saw that great big grey thing lurking in the background.
Im glad I havent caught the ship building bug,,unlike certain other members,,mention no names ,,,,Andy,,cough cough!

i meant the little "c" shaped thing behind the trailing edge, which actually turned out to be a bit of scrap plastic, not the wheel well part i had cut off the fret, then left, that can be seen under the prop in the first pic.
i'm also waiting for some hull red for the "big grey thing"!

got the flat coat on only to notice one of the wing insignias has really silvered i'm going to give it some exhaust staining with the tamiya smoke in the background, get the radar aerials on, and the antenna wire fixed to the tail and shes done

Looks really good Phil, apart from the silvering of the decal ( don't you just hate it when that happens ).
How did you do the stripes on the spinner, is it a decal or painted on ?

andy- the spinner stripe is a decal, and i think it was actually for the other version in my kit, but how could i resist! those stripey spinners look so cool to me

Looks good Phil, damn those decals, but you always seem to get 1 with Revell decals I had the same thing with one of the wing crosses on my Bf 110, I painted over the silvering then matt coated and you can hardly tell, well you can't it's only because I know that I can tell
So we get to see this at Hinckley, cool, looking forward to it

it looks like i need to do some subtle touching up just like you said, mal. almost the last job is to get the antennae on to the rudder, what i do is grab the fishing line with lockable forceps, use a bottle top to adjust the height, then move them to "catch" partway around the little post, superglue it, then leave it overnight
