We had a great time at the big IPMS UK event at Telford over the week end. We a 12' frontage, 6' deep and could have filled a further 6'x6' area with all the models that members brought to the stand. Some for the one day but most over the full week end, the standard was superb and most were armour. That was OK as it gave me a pitch to the aircraft, figure, ships and other genres that we would like to see them on the site.

We almost had a live internet connection, it was working on Saturday, but my laptop wasn't. Vinnie brought his lap top on Sunday, that was working but the wireless connection wasn't Vinnie had a cached page showing the site so it wasn't a total loss. Next year I'm planning on a hard wire connection, but there is a big cost £220. Kieth (docdios) and I were discussing having multiple PCs for punters to browse and sign on. Not as far fetched as it might sound with a little planning.

I spoke to loads of punters, all said that they would definately take a look at the site, so look out for members joining a saying they saw us at Telford. I spoke to a Norwegian and a couple of Greeks, so they may not be British. I also spoke to Airfix about getting a sample of their new Spitfire Mk IX for review (in fact I tried to blagg one of the pre-production samples they had there, but no luck). I will be sending them a link to the site, so I reckon we have a good chance of getting one but I don't need anyone to do the honours as I already have a volunteer I also spoke to Bob, from MDC, Model Design Construction, he came over to look at the stand, seemed interested and I am emailing him with details and a link. The publicity guy from TMMI came over and I "bigged" him up about the site, and the mag. I spoke to Richard Franks the editor of the new Model Airplane International Magazine and we are going to have links both ways between the IPMS A-UK site and their web site.

I wasn't able to get any pics, but Vinnie blagged a press pass and did. He got some up on Saturday, nice one vinnie. The stand had plenty of support from members, both in terms of models and physical presence.

All in all a good first time out, but it was always going to be a case of learning and making it better for next year and the shows in between.

I haven't tried to name all those that were there because I have had a senior moment and know I can't remember all the names, so rather than name the ones I do remember I'll not name any, sorry guys. Your attendence was very much appreciated and please post here and say that you were there.

I am going to try and get the stand to a few more shows, so if there is a one local to you let me know and I'll try and be there. I will have to be selective due to work and other commitments.

Well done Mal on the stand, it looks more impressive in the flesh. Can you post a pic of the samples you had so people can see how much work was put into it.
This was my first model show i had attended and i was impressed at the size of it, no wonder its the biggest in the world. There was lots of truly impressive models in all categories and judging must have been really hard. I still think Ross should have entered his destroyed tank dio as that was brilliant.
It was nice to meet you at Telford and my daughter has now joined Armorama, so not only do i lose half my modeling desk but computer time too :-) :-) .

Well done on the great stand Mal.

It was a good weekend made all that more so in being able to see some of the great models in the flesh that have featured on these hallowed cyber pages.

I look forward to seeing and if possible lending a hand on the stand in the future.

All the best, ciao

Sorry to disapoint but the destroyed tank dio was not mine. I think it may have been Vinnie's. I think he should have put it in too as Vinnie does make a quality product.

Nope, in fact I've never entered anything. Nothing against it though, I might have a go next year.

Keith entered that wonderful dio a couple of years ago and believe it or not it came second. When he told me I was gob smacked.
I was talking to Henk about the competition and he suggested that maybe we should all enter something next year, what do you think? I have never been interested in entering competitions, but I would for the cause It would be nice to report a few medels after next years show. I'm planning a 1/32 FW 190D-9.

LOL, no one has to enter, but we could do the shotgun thing and enter as many catagories between us as we can Even if you don't win in the catagory you may pick up one of the sponcered prizes. I'm not into competitions but I'm game, maybe Armorama could sponcer a prize?

i would'nt mind entering something next year, because it would be a sort of natural progression for me
2004- goes to show as ordinary punter (first ever visit)
2005- has stuff on display on armorama stand
2006- wins best of show overall.........well a bloke can dream can't he? :-)
