My father landed on D-Day with the 2Mons 53 Welsh Div.
They were involved in bitter fighting during the battle for Caen they fought around a small town called Mondrainville and rested there for a while before pushing on.
My father returned 40 years later with some fellow comrades one of which was Edward Chapman VC BEM , they have made many friends over the years and have built up a wonderful relationship between a school in Mondrainville and a school in my dads local town, the children have visted each other and they attended the 60th.
Onthe 50th they named a road after Edward Chapman and when my father went back for the 60th the town has named the school after my father and his good friend Tom Griffiths also of the 2nd Mons it is called the,
Ecole Edwards-Griffiths they wanted to have my Dad and his mates pictures hanging in the entrance which they thought was a wonderful gesture, however my dad wanted something else to be placed in the entrance and that was a plaque which my father has had made with the names and ages of all his fellow comrades who paid the ultimate price in the bitter fighting in that area .
It a wonderful thought to know that my kids will be able to visit that area and have such a connection with their grandad the area and the people.
Cheers Chris

Awesome, simply awesome. It's always good to hear that the veterans are being honored for their sacrifices. Thanks for your time and this post.
