Hey all
Been racking my insignificant brain lately for a method of replicating mesh (for my use I wanted the mesh under the rear hull overhang of an M4a1. Thought of flywire, but not having any on hand that wasn't in use, I ventured down the shops to a $2 shop (you know, all cheap Chinese stuff) After a look around I spotted a 'grease spatter
stopper', you would know these as being round in shape with a handle (like an oversized pingpong paddle) and being covered with mesh, for use on a frying pan. This cost me $2.50AU, is roughly 10" in diameter, and looks to be the scale I've seen in PE sets for Tiger tank vent grilles on the rear deck etc. It is easily cut with a blade, and I'm sure with some trimming you could cut it to whatever shape desired...
In addition to this, There is even finer meshwire in the filter of a coffee plunger... Hope this can be of help to any or all that want a cheap option to PE mesh...
Cheers
Bradley
P.S. Just realised I paid too much at that shop in particular...

Honey-
Right on time. I'm doing a Sherman and I was looking for the same thing, mesh for deck screenings etc. I was thinking of tearing apart coffee screens or water filters but upon reading your suggestion about the fryer spatter screen, I fished mine out, smuggled it past the wife and it is PERFECT!
You could date my daughter if I had one. Since I don't, you can have the turtle my nephew buried out back last winter.
Thanks again. Just goes to show, any hint...
Don

Umm Don? How about getting your own one!
Think the missus would get a lil shirty with unexplainable Sherman shaped fat spatters over her net time she cooks the chitlins... :-)
P.S. I'll pass on the turtle. Not knowing what state it'll be in when I dig it up, (probably Missouri;) I may suffer shellshock....

I can't find the post but someone just had a photo of a tank turret basket w/ mesh from a wedding dress I think?

Looked good - maybe you can find that post and check it out. I think they said it was very inexpensive for quite a bit of material.

Good Luck

Is that material like a honeycombed pattern?

All-
Tule's basically machine made lace. I used it in several of my armor efforts but it always looked a bit too large in scale, as to the space in the openings I mean.
This spatter screen mesh looks great. The best thing~ it's not screen, it's expanded aluminum (at least it seems to be non-ferrous). Doesn't unravel when cut!
Me n' Honeycut gonna be MILLIONAIRES!

Well, maybe not- but we're gonna be smug.
