$2.20 is as low as I've seen it. Frankly though I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Here in the Springs they tend to creep down till they reach some point then everybody in town raises them by .20 cents or so overnight. You just never know if it will go lower, or should you buy now before it goes up. They also tend to raise prices just before a holliday.

$2.04 today here in Atlanta, GA. Frankly I'm glad it's going down, but I won't be pleased unless it drops down to about $1.50 a gallon. The oil companies are making billions, they use any excuse they can think of to jack up the prices. First it was OPEC, then it was the war in Iraq, the latest scam has been the hurricanes. I guess next will be the "monster blizzards" of 2005-'06.
OK rant over, thanks I needed that!

Hi, My daughter told me that she heard they were having something of a "gas price war" up above Dayton either yesterday or today and one dealer had it for $1.88 a gal!!!!!!!!!!!! That unbelievable when just a couple of months ago it was $3.25 to $3.50 a gal. Just goes to show how much lead-way there is to the over-all price of gas.
But I'm still glad I got rid of my gas-sucking truck. According to my on-board computer it says my HHR is getting 25.1 mph around town, and it has less than 1,000 miles on it so far. I can live with that, for the time being.
Take care, Sgirty

$ 1.98 here! I never thought it would ever happen again! Although, the fact that I still ride the schoolbus, or as I call it my "Big Yellow Limo", tends to keep my bank account nice and fat. I'm still waiting for a nice hybrid with the 70 mpg rating.
 Thanks for your time.

Here in N.J. we are at 2.15 ..weee.. On a side note..the oil companies make very little as compared to all other business. Easy way to realize this..You make 100,000 a year..what would you expect to put in your pocket? $65,000 ? Oil company pockets......$9,800. I know I couldnt live only keeping 9.8% of my income. Off the crate now.

Hi guys
I just figured I would add my 2 cents. [After buying gas thats about all I have left. ] Just playing :-) On a more serious note a question : If a oil company is only making about 10% on every $100,000 Then how come I read in a local paper that a number of them are recording record profits. If 10% is a record how can they afford to stay in business ?? Lastly whatever came of the oil company rep being called before the US Senate ? [To much modelling to do, lost track of the news. ]:-X :-)
Like I said just my 2 cents.

"Profits" and "costs" can be figured up in all kinds of ways and presented to the general public as truthful and legitimate figures with no way to second guess them. These major corporations pay big money to people they hire whose job it is solely to maximize profits and cut their costs, passing anything that could be looked at as unpleasant or regarded as a lost to them down to their workers and the general buying public at large. What better example of this today than the "World Wide Economy," that we are told about all the time, which can really be translated into the "New World Order," bought and controlled by a few world-wide corporations. And paid for by us.
After all, were talking speicifically here about the same basic companies who dealt with the Germans all throughout World War II in shipping gas, aviation fuel, and other high grade and vital materials to the German war machine up until the final days of the conflict. Both with our government's knowledge and their back-handed blessings as well. Now I know that the people who run thse companies have changed since that time, but the general, over-all way of doing business has not, only gotten much worse. Or maybe a better way of putting it would be more cold blooded.
I heard here a little while ago that a committee was being set up over in Washington to investige any price gouging that may have went on this past summer concerning the price of gas. Now we can pretty well guess that this will be the last that we, the general public, will ever hear about it. And, if, a report happens to come out, it will simply say that their could possibily have been some jacking of prices by parties unknown and that they, the politicians, will be keeping a better eye on it. Yeah, right. This will happen just about the time h--- will freeze over!
The current pricing in gas, at least here in America today, is a perfect example of just how much "play" there is in the profit margin of a gallon of gas. After all, if there wasn't the refining capacity this summer to keep up with demand, despite the hurricane damage suffered down south, gas would not have dropped from a general high of $3.50 to $3.75+ a gal to $2.00, or less, a gal here now. That's just too much of a drop in 3 or 4 months to simply chalk it up to hurricane damage and an overall general lack of refining capacity. This is called gouging and the putting of pressure on the various government officials to allow these various companies to get a hand on the rest of the world's natural oil reserves, or at least be allowed to do so whenever they wish.
But we're told that it's just business, nothing personal, just business.
Sorry for the rant, but having worked of GM and seeing some of these kinds of operations on a small scale, I tend to get a little carried away about these so-called "legitimate" business practices we are seeing today. Esp. when the flower of American youth is being put on the chopping block simply for the good of Wall Street.
Take care, Sgirty

Just a simple follow up. I dont understand why we all get so upset over a gas company making a profit of 9.8% Its a drop in the bucket. Like any large corp. they are in business to make money ..period. These things always get blown out of proportion by a news media that tells only the side of the story they want you to hear. [ keeping this short..could go on for pages with this] Low and behold some wiz bang politicians come up with the idea to tax the gas companies again...Who do you think will pay that one..We the consumer. Now my point..How many newspeople told you this fact....Gas company is making .10 cents a gallon...US government, on average, is making .46 cents a gallon..Who is really taking our money here..?

And John, don't forget the State Taxes thrown in, PLUS the hidden taxes-(Transportation-Excise-Hazard Material- and the list goes on.... and one..... )
now lets discuss the taxation of cigarettes..... 6 bucks for a pack of butts---- and 5 of those bucks are assorted taxes....
I happy to be smoke free now... do the math--- 5/6 bucks a pack---- 3 to 4 packs a day....... 15 or 20 bucks a day for butts..... times 30 day a month....... equals 600 smackers...... in my pockets.....
:-)
  That's a lot of resin kits...... :-) :-)

Not to hijack the thread but I have the same math as Grumpy.Marlboros for M4 budget switch

As far as fuel goes, there is probably some gouging in there somewhere but there is way more than that coming into play at the pump.
