I have a Campbell/Hausfeld 2 gal compressor , but it is the noisiest son-of-a-gun around and the wife/baby is cutting my model building back considerably.. Can anyone recommend a good compressor that runs silent??????

Harry,
My wive still thinks that the best thing I ever purchased was my Iwata Smart Jet Compressor.
Almost silent......................................... (so silent, that I often inadvertently leave it on after I'm done airbrushing, ..oops!)
Cost me about $375 Canadian,......... Google the Curry's art supplies web page to get additional info.
Just think how happy the better half will be!

Walmart, Target, KMart all have a compressor with a 2 gallon tank. These are great. If you can afford a larger tank it will give you longer painting periods.
The compressor fills the tank then shuts off and the AB is supplied by the tank. Then when the pressure drops low enough the compressor turns back on to fill it up.
These run about $80-90

I can recommend the EURO-TEC 20 A by Steinbech & Harder. Makes about the same sound as a refridgerator. Do not know if they are on the market in the US though.

If you want silent, switch to CO2.
It's silent, constant pressure, dry in that there is no moisture in the lines from condensation, no oil leakage from the compressor. just silent power.
I got the large , scuba sized, tank dual guage regulator and the single fitting to connect the hose to regulator 2 summers ago for about US$200.
I've painted dozens of models since and have just gotten below 1/2 of the tank.
Try a welding supply store, if they are clueless, try another. I had one local place who may or may not wanted to actually go to any effort tell me they couldn't do what I wanted, but the next guy deals with home brewers and got me exactly what I needed that afternoon.
My US$0.02

Thanks for the suggestions..
I have considered the CO2 route, but I doubt my wife would go for a big metal tank sitting in our dining room and the cost is a little more than I can do.. I already own the "Walmart" compressor, and that's why I am looking for something a little more quiet becasue it sounds like someone running a jackhammer in my house..

I use a 20 cu Ft CO2 tank and it lasts quite a few models......
17-1/2" H x 5-1/4" Dia.
it's about 15 bucks per fill

Harry i think Campell Housfeld has a quiet compressor with 2 gallon tank!
I found somewhere on the net a few days ago!
They ship it free to U.S ground! It may be the same with the one you have but check it out!

Thanks,
I had that one and it burned up on me, but it was fairly quiet and it was quieter than the one I have now, but not by much..

I just got a Testors compressor, the little blue one, 40% off at Hobby Lobby. It's quiet enough and I don't disturb the family when using it. Before what I'd do with my Cambell/Hausfeld was take it outside to fill it up then shut it down and use the tank as a supply. I'd rarely have to take it outside to fill it up again during a airbrushing session.

I can hear my compressor through two armoured doors and a concrete floor...
Why do I find that funny???
