For those that don't know the biggest model show in the (World) is to be held at the Internatioanl Centre Telford on Saturday and Sunday 19th/20th November 2005. If anyof you have never been to this show it is very highly recommended.
This year the IPMS ArmoramaUK branch was formed and will have a display at the show (If I get the stand built in time ) The table space normally allocated to a new branch is just one 6' table (I think it is) we have been allocated 4 tables (2 deep, 2 frontage, (12' x 6' I think)) so we have a lot of space to fill. Part of the reason for the large table space is that I have taken on the "country branch" as well (this is for those not affiliated to any particular branch). These country members will be allowed space on the stand, if they so wish. I have put a request on the IPMS forum site for any country members wanting to space to let me know (it was recently but no requests yet)
There is an IPMS ArmoramaUK web site under construction and I expect to have a lap top with that site and the main armorama site on it so punters can surf them to find out what we are about. The stated aims of IPMS A-UK are to encourage the younger, novice and female modeller and I'm in the process of looking for sponcership to help those aims. The branch stand therefor requires as many diverse models as possible and as many as can be found from the younger, novice and female modeller. I will be taking about 15-20 of mine but I hope not to have to put out more than 2-5 as I hope as many of you as possible will bring something.
It will be all but impossible to collate all the models that will be or might be brought to display but If you want to bring something then let me know. If you decide to bring something and it is to late to let me know don't worry, bring it anyway, we will find room. I have several members who have said they are bringing stuff and I will be contacting some (one) of you to confirm.
Because of health and safety issues entrance to the show, before it opens to the public, is very strictly controlled (if you are not a member of the IPMS you will not be allowed in regardless) IPMS members require a special members pass. Without this pass IPMS members will be allowed in at 0900, none IPMS members at 1000.

OK this is the real important bit. Our stand will be in hall 3, which is the entrance and where the IPMS stand will be as well as the competition. We are in a very prominant place so we can get lots of publicity for both Armorama and the IPMS. I have attended 2 model shows so far and I have a different approach to this branch stand thing than others. I don't sit behind the stand looking glum and board, I am out front engaging as many people as possible in conversation about modelling and modelling techniques. I will be encouraging punters to surf Armorama on the lap top and giving out flyers (again if I get them done ) With loads of Armorama members around the front we will look as if there is something interesting going on (which there will be) and we will attract more punters. That is the plan, but I'm sure there will be a couple of seats behind the stand to chill out on as well. I would dearly like all Armorama members who visit Telford to come and say Hi, (the main reason for forming IPMS Armorama, was somewhere for us to meet at Telford. So come and introduce yourself, even if you have been a member for only five minutes.

Hi Mal,

I have a few models that can go on the stand, I have just started the Firefly which WILL be ready in time, but what about 'in progress' stuff? I could take some in progress models ( possibly work on them on the stand?) like a big hotel building or even my Cutty Sark. Although I don't know what the IPMS stance on wooden ships is... . I'll PM you later.

Cheers
Henk

Yes in progress stuff as well, I will be taking some. One thing to remember is that unless you can secure boxes (that you bring your models in) they will be removed by the cleaning staff, apparently). This would be a disaster for me if it were to happen.

Mal

I should be there for the Saturday, but not sure when I'll arrive (it is Saturday and I'm coming from near Portsmouth in a 15 yr old Fiesta!). I could bring my first three completed models and a few in progress jobbies. I don't mind sparing a couple of hours to cover for you to get a break, but will want to look about myself. Could we do a rota to keep a couple of bodies on the stand at all times?

Plus, depending on health and safety, I could bring my CO2 cannister if anyone wants to do some air-brushing on the stand.

Derek,
Thanks, The only thing pre-show is setting up, on friday. Vinnie is trying to get there, but is having difficulty. The other problem is that to get in, before the show opens, you must have a pass. I had asked for 2 and got 1 (the formation of IPMS A-UK was on the deadline of asking for branch space at Telford, so we were "fast tracked") I'm talking to Ian Day about passes and other stuff. It won't be a problem if Vinnie can't make it as I don't mind setting up on my own, I'll have as much time as I need. My one worry, though, is that, apparently, I will only be allowed 20 mins to off load and if the side entrance is furthest away from hall 3, as I suspect it is, it could be fun.
Is there anyone from other branches that will be ther on Friday and could give me 10 minutes of there time
Steve,
Got it and replied, like I say it won't be possible to say waht can or can't be accomodated. My main concerns are that we a) have a diverse a range of models as possible and b) that we fill the stand. I do have acontingency plan if b) doesn't happen. All I can say, to everyone,is if you can please bring something.

If you are only coming for one day you could bring one model, place it on the stand and say hi to fellow members, eave it until you depart. This won't be a problem as it will be nice to have different models throughout the week end.

Joe,
Dates are 19th-20th November. I wouldn't like to pack away someone elses models, Joe, as I wouldn't like anyone to attempt to pack mine, see above.

Ross,
It will be great to see you, take care in that Fiesta Anything you bring will be welcome. I would like to do airbrush demos but I don't think H&S would allow it so save your Fiesta the struggle and leave the Co2 at home Thanks for the offer though, it is something I will be looking at doing in the future.

Phil,
Even IPMS members aren't allowed in before 0900, without a special pass (H&S) I will have one and could meet you in the foyer. Set up is actually on the Friday and, with a pass, from 0745 on Saturday. My brother and Henk will be around the foyer earlyish.

Henk,
Don't worry I haven't forgotten about letting you know about meeting.

Manning the Stand
Thanks for the offers of manning the stand and they will be taken up I intend to be there the whole of the week end. I will try and get my purchases done before the doors open to the public, but I will need time to eat and I have a few people to talk to about sponcership. I also have a branch meeting to attend on Sunday.
Please remember that I want this branch stand to be a hive of activity, to achieve this it is important to engage punters in model talk. This is especially important when it comes to youngsters, novices and females (no not chatting up ) This is why in progress models are important, it gives you something to show what you are talking about. I will have verious modelling paraphanailiure with me to help this process. At The Aeroventure show I was able to do an impromptu demo of hand brushing Klear. I'm considering maybe doing a decalling demo, or something. What we need are crowds and we have the perfect oppertunity at Telford.
This is the first time so there will be hiccups, but from these we will learn. I hope to get the branch stand around the country a bit after this main show so by next year Telford will be a doddle

Mal, still unsure about Friday. See your PM's. Whenever I arrive I'll be bringing 4 rather large crates of models which should fill a large gap. I hope to bring some 'in progress' ones as well, but this just depends on what's on my bench at the time.

If the car park marshalls see you have a problem --on your own---they are not too hard on parking--you have to get the kit in --mmmmm!!!---eh!!

I'll bring my 'mobile-workbench' aswel, seeing as I do most of my models at work now. Will there be a possibility to do some airbrushing? I've got one StuG III that needs a 'respray' , and could be pushed ( twist my rubber arm :-) ) to knock together the German Armoured Rail carriage I have laying about...
I'll probably take one or two boxes ,

DUKW
Jagdpanther
Demag with PaK on snow base
Panzerwerfer 42
Leopard 2A5
Pzr IV F1
Sherman Firefly ( working on it right now, no pressure..)
and a few 1:16 figures

I would like to bring my Opel Blitz as an in progress item, seeing as I'm scratch building the interior.

If I can find the cuppola hatch for my M48 Patton ( ) I'll bring that aswel.

Cheers

Mal,
As long as the passes arrive in time I will be setting up on Friday and should be able to lend a hand once everything is in, as our club stand is only a small one this year.

I will also be bringing something for the UK stand, dont know what yet. Still building

Vinnie,
Don't sweat it if you can't make it, I will manage

Steve,
Again don't sweat it, sort out your stand, I will be able to carry all my stuff, I'll just make more trips, plus I'll try and get a carry system sorted. I will be there at 1600 and I hope to be gone, or set up by 1800 at the latest.

Mal,----tell me to go away ....but have you got a 8' x 12' cover for the tables

A legitimate question from one who has done it before, thanks for thinking of it. I have 2 white sheets which should be big enough?

Henk,
The mobile work bench may or may not be a good idea. It seems that we will have plenty of room but until I get there I won't know. To be honest I think you might feel a little left out if you sit modelling (although it's good to have someone doing the hobby at stands) because if all goes to plan there should be a real hive of activity around the stand. Mind you having said that the activity might be around your modelling I'd say bring it if you can, without any grief, and we will try and accomodate it. As for airbrushing I think not, as it's a health and safety issue.

Luciano,
If you can help great, if not then again I will manage, thanks. Looking forward to see it.
Ciao

Phil,
Should be nothing to stop you passing stuff over, I'll see if I can find out if you will be able to let me know you've arrived. I will be there early but I won't be able to get in until 0745, so I'm aiming for about 0730. Henk and my brother will, hopefully, be there around the same time.

More info,
Hall 3 is also the holding area for the public, until the show opens at 1000. So you will have access to the stand, well I guess you can wave like a demented demon, or shout, and I will come to you, from 0830.

Phil, If you have a focus near you, they may be a better bet, as they have a national offer on the large plastic storage boxes at the moment.

No worries, It's not all that impressive, just a large tool chest with a large serving tray.. I would possibly only need a small corner of the table to put the tray..
What, you mean two (TWO??) days without modeling?? I'd have to sneak of to the car and glue a 1:72 kit together if it got that bad..

My 'Mobile Workbench'

Hi Kieth,
Sorry, I hadn't forgotten that you asked me to look at you dios and choose, but I have been busy. Would you save me the time and choose ( I had a bad week end and I'm behind with the stand ) If you want me to choose though just say and I will make a conserted effort, thanks.

Hi Mark, welcome to Armorama Looking forward to meeting you. I have received my passes for Friday so I will probably see you at the door then. You will probably notice me with the stand so say hi. (Forgive me if I don't recognise the name, I'm not good at remembering names and faces. See you there.

Don't worry the stand will be done, I just had to have a re-think.
