last night while i was working on something, I was thinking aboutall the little tricks of the trade.
My question is, who came up with all the tricks??????
For example, who first used or came up with the idae of using Future Floor Wax for a gloss finish, or who started using pastels to weather. Who came up with dishwashing liqued for an acrylic wash. Back when I was 8 and I first set foot in a hobby shop, I thought all you needed was Model paint, Model glue , and a Model kit. I never imagined all these home tricks and things we use that dont even have the word Model in it.
Just a thought!!! Think amungst yourselves.

I can't imagine being caught in dishwashing action WITHOUT thinking of modeling while I'm at that ! (Well, a few other things maybe, but only just a few...)

Well, Pete, I would imagine that like all good discoverys, they came about by accident. I can see some unknown modeler looking at a bottle of Future and thinking "It's acrylic, so it won't hurt the paint, it's supposed to make things shiny....so why not?"
Probably the same for dish liquid. It breaks up the waters surface tension and is a degreaser. So, add it to paint and see what happens.

Here's how I see the Future thing.
A guy is forced to help around the house. So he is mopping the floor with Future and accidently mops over a canopy that he had lost a month earlier. He picks up the canopy and the rest is 1:72 scale history.

Epi - I think I learned a lot of the stuff I do today because I didn't have anyone around to teach me - teach me what was "right" and what was "wrong" in modeling. I learned most through T&E (trial and error). So, I guess my approaches to solving tasks in modeling are unconventional for the most part.
