When using Humbrol matte coat, what should i use to thin it?
What ratio?
And should I spray it out heavy or as I would with normal paints?
I was told to cut it with alcohol and I ended up with a blotchy hazey finish!

All input is appreciated.
Thanks

Rick

Hmmm, Rick. Reading the text on the bottle is a good advice... :-)
Well, to be serious. You can thin Humbrol Matt coat with white spirit. I usually thin it approx 50/50 and it works good for me. I spray it on the model in the same way as paint, and usually with two coats.

Cheers
Erik

...and the text on the bottle actually tell you to use white spirit. :-) :-)

Yep. I too use white spirit. I always crank up the pressure and cut down the amount of Matt coming out the gun. I've started using acrylic matts more and more though. Better results and easier clean-up.

Thanks guys, guess I missed the fine print
As far as white spirit, the only thing I,ve come across is turpentine, varsol or mineral spirits. Are these the same?

Mineral spirits should do the trick. I think white spirit is called Stoddards Solvent in the US if that helps.

You may find that white spirits is called "distilled turpentine" in your part of the world... I know it is in mine...

BTW, I use my Hum Matte Cote neat, but then I'm painting figures...

Ive had problems before with the heavier pigment laying at the bottom and jamming the air-brush, when using spirits or turps. I use Humbrols own enamel thinner and never have any problems.

I use an enamel thinner that I buy in bulk from the local paint supply store to thin all my Humbrol enamels including clear matt and gloss.

I mix 2 parts matt clear to 1 part thinner and have had no probs as long as you only use it in thin coats.

cheers
