Woooohoooooo

After Saturday it was already certain that we were going to Germany at the World Championship soccer 2006 when the Orange team beat The Czech Republik with 2-0 but they also had to play against Macedonia yesterday evening and I was curious about the score. It was terrifyingly bad soccer and the score was 0-0..... Well even with that we were 1st in the qualification rounds and stayed there till the end.
With the New Coach Marco van Basten and a completely new young!!! Soccer team (Finally we got rid of those fossiles) we are completely ready for the WC.
Why am I so excited.... well this is the first time that the Orange team actually did get there by playing soccer. All the years before that it was just second place in the qualification rounds. Playing a couple of more matches to secure a place... nine out of ten times screwing it up completely and then with the biggest luck of the world still reaching it because another team lost from a lower ranked team and therefor missing just enough points to get the Orange team`s place.
Van Basten, Oranges New coach, did a good job in coaching the guys and he even created a myth around him by not loosing a single match during the Qualification rounds and the friendly matches. In the qualification rounds they played 10 Matches of which 8 were won and 2 a tie, the Friendly matches, 5 in total, were 2 won 3 tie.
This brings us in Second place with only Brazil in front of us.

Well to get back to the ground again with my feet. It are still the 11 boys on the field who have to do the game... let`s see how far we get this time.
I`m looking forward to it.

Congrats to the Netherlands.

Anyone know if Scotland is thru? They are sitting 3rd in Group 5 after a surprising 3-0 win over Slovenia...

Congrats Holland. Well done.

We didn't make it so there will be no for us. At least when comes there will be more time for since I won't be seeing as much soccer as I would have, if we had made it.

Bummer... neither South Africa or Scotland made it...

I must admit to being more than a bit confused by the qualification system for Europe this time round... how does it work?

All first places in each group goes through automatically, as do the the three second place teams with highest points. The other 6, second place teams play off for the remaining 3 places.

Congrats faust.
My football rant .....
Holland for me are underachievers. The team on paper is almost a "whos who" of football. YouŽve always been blessed with some of the best players in the world. Yet its true .. football is a game of one team ... not 11 players. Over the last 28 years, Ive seen many great dutch teams, and countless footballers who would grace any team in the world, but they always seem to lack the final ingrediant. Teamwork??
Football rant over ....

Personally Id love to see the Dutch do well. Hopefully Van Basten can do what the last few x-players couldnt.

Ireland failed to qualify, so IŽll be shouting for my adopted country... Sweden .... again.

Remeber 1988. Well, apart from some 'nearly ones' in the 1970's that's all the Dutch have to be proud of. So I hope that at last this time the Dutch team is going to stick together and show the world why some (most?? :-) ) of the best players in the world come from The Netherlands...

My Orange T-shirt ( with a Lion on the chest, my old army pt shirt :-) :-) ) is ready and waiting..
