In case you haven't already heard, this little known gem of a movie has finally been released to DVD. They're calling it a 30th anniversary edition but it's 3 years too early for that officially. lol It's only $10, a real great deal for such an entertaining movie. Richard Harris, Roger Moore, Hardy Kruger playing British mercs in the Congo. What's not to love about that?

I haven't seen it in 20 years give or take. Wasn't Richard Burton in it as well?

A pretty good flick, if I recal. I think it was based on a novel by the guy who did Day of the Jackal and The Odessa File. I always like movies with a cast of likeable actors like this one has. I'll have to look for it at Wally World.

two of my favorite quotes:
"Men! We have been double-crossed, but we shall plan our way out!"
"Hit 'em with the bazooka!"

It came out on 9/27, I've been waiting to see this be released on DVD for quite some time as I've not seen it in years but always loved it. Only place to get it is online it appears as no stores are carrying it for some reason. Best Buy carries a ton of GARBAGE yet they don't carry this in store, at least not near me.
Now all I need is Grand Prix released to DVD finally and I'll be happy.

the only scene i can recall is near the end, when this fella fell out of the aircraft as it was taking off, got captured by the african rebels and hacked to death...ugh, it was pretty gruesome ....anyone can remember who the character is?

DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE END!!! SPOILER ALERT
I don't remember anyone falling out but the Richard Harris character wasn't going to make it onto the plane so Richard Burton shot him to avoid being hacked.

Rodger,
Frederick Forsythe's merc' book was 'The Dogs of War', that was filmed starring Christopher Walken.

That's how I remember it as well. The only character that got "hacked to death" would have been the medic "Witty" when he ran out of ammo and was surrounded. "Come on you Beauties!" followed by screaming...of course.

Yep, that's the one I was thinking of. I couldn't put my hands on the book I have that has all three, DOTJ, OF, and DOW in it, and I had a brain fade trying to remember Forsythe's name.
You know what they say, the brain goes first.
Thanks.

Morning peoples...,
first time on this page for me,...its great!!!.... Ok, I sculpt figures...but my other little hobby is to collect historical epics and war movies, I have some 2,500 tapes, and am now adding DVD's..
I love the old 40s 50s and early 60s black and white, John Mills, Trevor Howard , Aldo Ray , etc ,... plus the more up to date films, the films you talk of are all part of the collection,
My favorite black and white is ' THE SILENT ENEMY 'its about Buster Crab and the frogmen in WW11 and in colour ' DAS BOAT'.......historical have to be THE WARLORD, Charlton Heston as a norman knight....
this is a fun a top page,.. Phil..

Well lads, I received my copy of The Wild Geese yesterday and sat down to watch it (got interrupted by the phone so many times I stopped watching before the end tho), even with all the interruptions I couldn't believe how much I missed this gem of a movie.
All the one liners in this movie along with the action is just top notch, 'old school' war movie. Sandy the RSM has some great lines during the training "ok, let's try for our first heart attack shall we?" lol Another of my favorites is "feel free with my whiskey", "thank you I will". lol
I'm gonna find some quiet time this weekend and watch it from beginning to end again. What a great movie!

I havent seen this film for years, I videod off the TV a long time ago but lost it quite a few years back.
I just found out a newspaper over here called the Mail on Sunday is giving it away for free on DVD inside every issue tomorrow.
I'll get myself one for the price of the newspaper.
Can't be bad eh,
Vic

Actually, no one fell off the plane. The one that got hacked to death was their medic who stayed behind to cover the escape of his CO and the rescued hostage.

Wild Geese was a great movie. Wild Geese 2 however stunk to high heaven. Scott Glenn and Barbarra Carrera as mercs going to Spandau prison to 'rescue' Rudolf Hess. bad, bad, bad, bad....
Edward Fox tried to recreate Colonel Faulkner's role that Richard Burton had (he died before the could film it) but he was terrible too.
On of the best scenes in Wild Geese: the mass parachute drop where they all fall out the loading ramp at once....beautiful!!
best line - Richard Burton as Col. Faulkner: "There is a clause in all of my contracts that my liver is to be buried separately and with honors". LOL
