White Spirits is a mineral spirit and can be used to thin oil paint. I think it is called "Stoddards Solvent" in the US.

Here in SA it's called distilled turpentine... it's a purer form of turps...

Well to add to my two cents here...I've heard it called Mineral Spirits in the States. I normally use Odorless Mineral Spirits since it doesnt have as much "bite" compared to normal Mineral Spirits or Turpentine, which can eat even acrylic paint off a model and attack the plastic!

AFAIK white spirits = mineral spirits. If you use it it's a good idea to let your acrylic dry longer beforehand or even to use a coat of Future because as Scott says it does attack plastic and can make it very brittle

Hi there Marcelo!
Here in Greece we have the same thinner!
White spirit!
I use it a lot to thin acrylic varnish and clean the brushes which works quit fine!!
Sometimes i used it to clear the surfaces from wash on and the result was excellent!
The acrylic varnish below the wash remained unharmed!!
You can try to see your results!
I'm not aware of a different name for it!

I use white spirit for cleaning enamels off brushes now (thanks to everyone who replied to my thread about it), and its brilliant. Just keep it in a closed jar so it can't evaporate, and don't inhale the fumes.
