Just thought I'd tell you about a small movie that I made with some friends many years ago. It was titled 'A Summer Harvest' and followed a group of RAF pilots during the Battle of Britain. It was made on a zero budget, using a De Havilland Chipmunk cockpit, a full-sized replica Spitfire and various locations, including the disused airfield at RAF Binbrook in Lincolnshire (Which incidently was used as a location in the 1990 movie 'Memphis Belle').
We had a great time making it and what we lacked in a budget we made up for in enthusiasm. Obviously we couldn't get everything right, even the big blockbusters of today get technical details wrong (Pearl Harbour), but we tried our hardest to make it look right. This included filming a scene where one of the pilots is shot down in flames. Yes, we did set fire to him and no, he wasn't happy about it (Especially after the fifth take!)
Has anyone else ever had a try at their own little epic? I'd love to hear about it. Here are a few stills from 'A Summer Harvest'. (Sorry about the quality but the film is quite old!)
