hi ken.
....for most of the time i use humbrol & testor enamels for airbrush work, and so far i'm happy with it. i use acrylics for mostly detail painting using normal brushes.

I used one or twice enamels as top coats with an airbrush. It took a long time to dry (at least 6 hours) before the next coat can be applied. In general, Model Master paints dry faster than Revell paints, and I believe Humbrol is a god paint also.
Nowadays, I use enamels for weathering only. It is hard to get enamels in KL. There are still some old-stock Humbrols around but the black and whites are slowly dissappearing.
Talking about paints, prices for Gunze and Humbrol paints are increasing next year according HHQ. Tamiya paints in KL may become rare as no new stocks are coming in.

advice on using enamels the kind that in the tin (Humbroll, revell), dont stir the paint to mix the pigment and the carrier fluid..
just 'pick' the pigment with toothpick/unused spure/etc/etc and let it dry on a paper tissue...lets the oil 'evaporate'..after 10-15 minutes , then , mix it with enamels thinner (mineral spirits)..
Kenny, is it true aa that gunze paints price will be up??
how much then??
haiya...have to stock now or else...............

Guys,
Thanks for the advice.
It was my mistake, i thought i was buying arcylics but instead i ended up with enamels. Those paints are Gunze. My friend mixed it with some thinner, then tried to spray. What came out are like fine spider webs. i was like...
.
Then i bought the paint for like abt 7-8 rm per bottle.
I think i better switch back to tamiya arcylics.
Thanks for the advice.

Yep! I would advise everyone to start stocking very soon on Gunze paints. It is now difficult to get Gunze flat black (water-based) locally. I am not sure how's much the price would increase as the news provided by HHQ is indicative.

Gunze paints are either lacquer or acrylics. Try to stick with Gunze thinner if you use Gunze paints. The spider web you experinced is due to paint agglomeration (i.e. thinner incompatibility or wrong thinning ratio) in the airbrush before it is sprayed out. The same thing would happen if you spray styrene cement. Otherwise, Gunze is a good paint, and personnaly I feel it is a better paint for spraying compared to Tamiya acrylics.

if that the case, then we all have to start stocking them all...not all lar but the most requested color ie black, white ..
imho, gunze paints are the best compare to tamiya when airbrushing.... and sometimes i prefer the lacqured based more then the water based.....
once i also shot spider web when i airbrushing mr.color paints mix with mr. thinner... i think the thinning ratio is the problem.....

That explains it. we were using industrial thinner.
Then i'll have to get the correct thinner. That will have to wait till my next pay day.
Thanks for the tips and advice.

Isn't that interesting Ken? How on earth are we going to transfer a bottle of thinner to Kuching fast besides surface mail? Do you want to try surface mail?
A few months back I did get some lacquer paints by air but in small bottles. They were labelled as artist paints.

Kenny,
Surface mail would be better than waiting until next year.
But how much will it cost? And normally how long does it takes?

That's something we need to check with POS Malaysia. Most liquid flammable goods are shipped by surface. I just brought in 2 tanks of ammonia from UK for my reactors.

Ok, i'll see about that.
That stuff you bought for your "nuclear" reactor, is it? no wonder you don't need to pay for your TNB bills.. :-)

Nothing fancy. Ammonia is used to make plastic monomers. Unfortunately, the plastic product is not suitable for plastic modellling

I am working in the R&D sector under MOSTI. The projects in hand are proprietary (which is why I am not saying much) but basically, we are troubleshooting and upgrading chemical processes. Just happened one of them is in the plastic industry.
Fortunately, I am not the scientist who prepares the chemical feedstock but I manage a few reactors and analyzers in the facility.
