I have done around 50 transactions with PayPal mostly as a buyer. Now they are insisting that I go through a verification process and give them my checking account number and routing number. They say this is to make me appear to be a more qualified buyer. Has anyone else gone through this? Is it worth it? I am dealing directly with PayPal so it isn't really a question of being duped by an e-mail scam but I am reluctant to give out the information they requesting.

As a UK user of Paypal, I went through the verification procedure. Nothing to worry about, it's just an extra level of security, not just for you, but for people who deal with you also.

Thank you for the quick response. SWMBO is not happy about my doing this although she does use my PayPal account from time to time.

I had to go through it also, just to receive one payment from someone who bought one kit from me.

I completed the process several years ago and have never had any problems. I speeds up transferring money to PayPal from your bank account also.

I actually opened up a separate checking account specific for paypal. Every now and then I may have to empty it to keep it low. That way if someone gets my info they won't get a lot of my money

I been through it...No problems with it at all. just do as they direct... Becoming verified is a good thing...some sellers on ebay will only accept bids from a Verified account...

I went through the verification procedure as well. No problems, until I started using a different card, then I had to do it again for the new credit card. So make sure you sign up with the card you intend using long-term. Otherwise, no problems.

I have had a "verified" PayPal account since 2000, and no problems on my end. Since PayPal has to pay a fee for using credit card transactions and probably no fee or much less for doing a bank wire transfer, they obviously prefer it if you have the ability to deposit and withdrawn funds directly from your checking account.

Hey there mate! One thing that recently went on with my paypal account was very bizaar!!I got a mail saying that such and such @aol.com had added their email address to my paypal account. The mail was dressed up like it was from paypal with a link leading to a copy of the same start page, as used by paypal.I had already been warned about this type of thing a while back... luckily.Thats where the fraudsters sting you.You panic by thinking 's#it i better get this fixed'.You enter your email add.,paypal password and bingo, you just gave your info away for someone to rip your account off. It's called fishing, and hundreds have been stung.Just after the wave of hurricanes in the States, people thought they were donating money to the Red Cross and other organisations when in fact alot donated was getting ripped off in the same manner as i described. There are some right mongrels out there!!Thought i would just add my two cents in.
For the fraudsters...

I got the verified thing done. I prefer using credit card so now with all my transactions I have to go through 2 or 3 additional steps, but, hey using paypal is a lot qicker than any other way. All the hassels of going out getting a money order. Or writing a personal check and waiting for it to clear. I like to pay instantly with the hope that I'll get my stuff quicker.

I have spent almost a thousand dollars in my time with paypal and never had a problem. Now paypal say I have to join their expanded use program and can only do it by registering another credit card.
The thing is I don't have, want or need another credit card. The credit card I have, although badly bruised from time to time, is quite sufficient to my needs. So I'll just have to forgo yje pleasure of buying on ebay and buy from online shops.

Pat, They said you had to verify by registering a different card? I don't get that. Did they give you a reason why you can't use your present card?

I don't get it either. I can keep using my present card but only after I join their expanded use program and I can only join their expanded use program by registering a second card. I had a long email correspondence with them but it was like talking to a machine.

It may be that the credit card that you have on file with them currently is one that cannot be verified. I had an issue with them like that before. The particular card i was using was unable to be verified for one reason or another..As i was in the process of switching banks anyway..i simply registered a second card..one that could be verified..and dropped the other card off...

That is what I ran into. It is something like they give you a one time credit card limit of $1000. Every transaction is subtracted from this total even if it takes 3 years (as in my case). Then you have to update to the verified status. In my case it was adding my checking account. I prefer credit cards, so now when I use Paypal after all the initial gobbilty gook I have to hit the other option button change from debit from the bank to the credit card and then hit enter. Takes 30 seconds or so extra

Guys never link paypal to your checking or debit card. Use a credit card only, that way if you have a problem you have another course of action than paypal.
I sold a guy a kit on ebay, mailed it off and got a positive feedback. Then the guy filed a complaint and paypal took the amount out of my online account. So never leave money in your account with them.
