--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,
I was hoping a Armorama member from Luxembourg may be able to help me out.

I recently purched a large number of models from Ebay. I am based in Sydney, Australia. I estimated the postage costs based on what it would cost to send the same items from Australia to Luxembourg. It was $80 USD.

You could imagine my surprise when the Ebay invoice came and shipping was to be $245 USD. After talking to the seller and visiting www.ept.lu I believe these are the true prices. Post is obviously very expensive over there.

Could anyone recomend an alternative to this? I was thinking that there must be freight forwrds and shipping companies that could do it cheaper. I want to go via Sea Mail if possible to keep costs down.
The items are in Bereldange but the seller is happy to drive them where ever to help me out on postage.

If anyone can help with this I have a very nice surprise / reward for them that will be shipped to them at my expense.

Regards,
AndyD.

Hi Andy,

Altho i'm not from Luxembourg, i was curious what shipping would be to Australia from my country. These are the possibilities given (converted euros to USD):

Priority / Economy
0-2 kg $27,00 / $18,35

2-5 kg $33,70 / $25,00

5-10 kg $59,55 / $37,30

10-15 kg $99,50 / $50,00

15-20 kg $130,50 / $63,75

I dont know how much your package weighs, but after i saw this i thought, maybe it is an idea to let the seller drive to Belgium or France (Luxembourg is tiny country, so he should be there quick) and ship it to an Armorama member living in Belgium, France or Holland and then let that person send it to you.
Should save you some dollars.

Oh, btw, these are prices given by my "standard" postal office. If you use special shipping companies, like TNT or Fedexx, prices skyrocket indeed.

Just an idea

Hello,

why not sending from Germany?
A "Postpaket international" or "DHL Paket" with max. measurements of 120cm x 60cm x 60cm and a weight of 20 kg to Australia by ship costs 82 Euros, plus taxes, if there are some in Australia.
Take a look:

You are in Zone 4.
Depending on the value of your order an insurance is recommended. It is automatically covered with 156,55 Euro, if it is shipped by ship. Insurance up to 500 Euro covered value costs 6,00 Euros, every additonal 150 Euros value cost 1,50 Euros additionally.

I hope I could help you.
Excuse me for my bad English, but this is a very special topic, with very special technical terms.
Greetings from Germany
Stefan

Hi Andy,

Would it be possible to have some details about your Ebay purchase.
How much weight do you estimate, how big should the parcel be.
My first look at our postage prices give other results than +200$.
I will look further if you can be a little more specific.

Glad to help you
Claude

(It's not my business but from where did you buy this, because i , as a Luxembourg citizen, am buying my kits in HongKong for half price, so i am wondering.)

Hi,
thanks for the responses.
Stefan and Thor they are excellent suggestions.
I have recieved an email from my seller and apparently it is only $160 USD from France (Still more than I expected but much better)
Germany and the Netherlands seem much cheaper to ship items and i will speak to him regarding this as a possibility.
Claude,
the weight of the items is approx 12.5 Kilograms. And is about the size of a box to fit approx 10 Dragon armour models. The items are from Ebay - someone clearing their stash I got a few greats buys but the postage is more than the items themselves!

Thanks again all!

Hello again,

if the Package exeeds at least one of the3 dimensions (120cm x 60cm x 60cm) (i.e. 70 x 65 x 30) there will be an additional charge of (at least) 20 Euro for bulky packages!
There are some more dependencies concerning the real dimensions of bulky packages:
length has to be max. 200 cm.
and the sum of length in cm , twice the width and twice the height has to be not more than 360.

I never buy from a foreign "ebay country" except Austria, because I have a friend there who can bring me the things.
Postage is already very high if you send articles within Germany. And good foreign deals would often get worse if postage had to be added..
