The Germans experimented with infa-red in the final months of the war. They equipped some Panther with IR in an effort to attack the allies at night and not come under Jabo attack. Man pack IR was also a development, but I wonder how practical it was. The battery pack alone must have weighed 40-50 pounds! So the figure is right, the IR was produced, however, its practical application is questionable.

I have heard of this as well.
The armament was the Stg.44 with an infa-red scope.
The battery was carried on the back with a smaller spare in the gas mask holder.
This type of soldier was called a "vampire" for the ability to work in the dark.

WHAT IS THAT THING IN THE END OF THE BARREL OF FIGURE 3?
Once I thought about buying this fig set but it looked too goofy even for me!

NOW I have bad eyes suffering from insomnia for the last week... #:-)

The bent barrel is for shoot around street corner, and the thingy at the front of the barrel is a periscope-like devise for aiming around the corner. I saw a couple actual M3 Grease gun with the same design....I guess at the end of the war, all weird ideas come out.

By the way, what that Gatling like thing the guy is holding? Some sort of Multi-Rocket launcher? Looked nasty....
