I really can't pass on this one without giving my congratulations to England for retaining the Ashes. As I am a neutral in this (being Scottish ) I still can't help commenting on it... I was lucky enough to see the first test live on TV in july, and have followed the other Tests on the radio and via Sky News. Only question is, is it going to be another 18 years?...Jim

Yes I can't agree more Jim.

As a Kiwi I must say It was with great joy I watched the Aussies go down to the English.

Now I'm really looking forward to the All Black tour to the home nations later this year.

I too must congradulate the English criket team on winning the ashes after all this time. Hopefully they will manage to retain it for a bit longer as well.

My congratulations to England also. Although we never see a cricket match here in the states on TV. At least I never have.
I can honestly say I have no knowledge of the game, how it's played, or anything else about it, other than they use a rather strange bat, a ball that looks like it's made of stone, and some sticks in the ground.
Perhaps next time I talk to Vinnie, or Cliff, or Young Jedi (amongst the missing) they could explain a little about it.

My line manager pulled a sickie yesterday and left me with nothing to do. So I ended up watching the score tick up on the BBC Sport site when I could have been home watching the TV Even more frustrated when my friend rang me up at work and she was watching it at home.

Really worried my mother at the end of the second test when the last Australian wicket went down with them only 2 behind. We were on the phone at the time and it took a while for her to work out what the shouting was.

PS the ball is cork wrapped in leather

I managed to keep up with the scores at work on the 'net; great stuff. Lets just hope it's our turn to keep them for 18 years!

But it is as hard as hell!
It is sort of wierd. Most of the most popular sports in the world were invented in england (football, rugby, cricket, tennis, golf and possibly archery) but we are rarely the best.
Congrats to the english team, but you have to give some credit to the aussies, especcially Shane Warne, probbably hte best current bowler in the world.

cheers

It's great news.

We all been glued to BBC Sport web page watching the runs increase and the wickets fall. Fantastic stuff.

In fact in the last test when we were trying to get the Aussies out the other week, our softball league games were all postponed for half an hour so we could listen to the radio

:-)
