Hey everyone,

I'm new to the modeling scene and am trying to get an idea of where to start. This site is amazing, so much information I feel overwhelmed.

I'm really interested in starting out doing modern aircraft (1/48 size), but really dont know where to start. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

What model companies make the best quality? About how long do they take?

Thanks again and I look forward to learning from everyone.

Welcome Christopher

You sure know how to ask the tough questions, right off the bat.

What model companies make the best quality? About how long do they take?

Who makes the best quality ? There are plenty of folks here that will be glad to fill you in on quality brands. I have found that I look more for the subject than quality as sometimes a particular manufacture is the "only game in town" for the aircraft I want to model. Sure some makers are better than others, but I'll let the folks with more Brand experience fill you in on that. In the end YOU make the best quality.

About how long do they take ? Anothwer hard one. Answer is it depends. research, complexity of the kit, detailing, and display method (dio etc.). On average it take me about 6 weeks to complete an aircraft model (I build primarily in 1/72), but it has taken longer, and some seem to "fall together" coming out of the box.

I'm sure you'll get plenty of answers to these questions. Hope I didn't add to any confusion you may have.

Again, Welcome to Armorama

Bonjour Christopher!

Bienvenue sur armorama!

Follow Dave and Chuck's advices and take a look at the Aircraft Forum... you will find what you need there!

I'm more into WW2 1/48 aircrafts but I think my advice is universal:
For the first attempts, don't expect too much and experiment with techniques you learned here and there. You can buy challenging kits if you want but try to find cheap ones! The first models you'll build will probably end as test models for painting experiments (mine did). Build for fun... post some pics on the forum to have feedback... and you will surely get the virus!

See you on the aircraft forums...
