Their web site is down. Not a good sign.

You know, I forgot that place was in NOLA. It is right on the river just east of the Superdome. Doesn't look good at all. Somebody will probably be cruising around in the Higgins boat they hand built.

Looking at the map, and watching FOX, it doesn't look good.

I have thought about this a lot. I realize it is irrelevant to the all the suffering going on there but I am devestated at the thought of the museum and its priceless collection being lost. So many veterans donated their priceless artifacts to that museum. Rest in peace Stephen Ambrose, your effort was not in vain.
I hope help arrives quickly for the people of New Orleans.
I'm in the military and I can't believe they aren't putting troops in there faster.

Having been to the D-Day Museum, and walked there from the convention center area that has been so much in the news, I am afraid it does not look good that the Museum escaped from the flooding. Many of the museum's exhibits are on upper floors so maybe they escaped the flooding. My biggest concern would be if the looters got into the museum.

Here is a copy from a fellow i know:
Sam Hood, who is a member of the board of directors of Confederate Memorial Hall, sends us the
following news: He has spoken to Mrs. Pat Ricci, curator of the hall. She reports that as of yesterday (Aug. 31) the museum is apparently not flooded.
A major concern remains security. His reports indicate that the National D-Day museum directly across the street from the Confederate Museum has been "gutted and trashed by looters."
Sadly, we are informed that the homes of every member of the Museum's staff are under water. The entire staff is now homeless and will have nothing to return to. Sam informed Mrs. Ricci of the efforts of all the readers of this site to inform the Civil War community of their plight and she has asked that all of you be thanked.
More updates will be posted as they become available.

So,
If I read this right the D-Day museum is pretty much gone.
Sad and unnessesary...

You say Richard that the Museum was trashed and gutted by looters, but why?not a lot to eat there and probably nothing to drink, just makes a body wonder.

The web site may be up - but nobody answers the phone.... Remote server may mean the site is back in business and from the calendar of events they have a condference on D-Day coming up in October -
Anyone know a New Orleans resident or someone in Louisiana who can eyeball the museum and say whether it survived or not???

Photo at the first link says no flooding and building intact, scroll down.

Someone in the comments at this link states the looting was mostly limited to the gift shop. However, you know what comments posted on the Internet are worth.

Entrance to the D-Day museum is at the red arrow...

I live about 24 miles west of the city. There is no access into New Orleans, except for military, rescue, and recovery personnel.
There is no mention of any damage to the museum on the local news, but I'm watching, as I've been there, and plan to go back.
A lot of folks lost their homes, true, but many want to go back and rebuild.
The city is locked down tight at the moment. There are police, National Guard, and Regular Army and Marines patrolling the city, among others.
Looting has happened in the city, but it's been in certain areas, not wide spread.
