Sorry bro...Like u said, there's no shortcut to it..

This is how I paint my smock. First paint the base color Khaki. Then, use dark green and red brown to paint large patches. I believe some of the smocks have angular patterns. Then using a fine tip brush, I paint field grey in short vertical lines that look something like rain drops throughout. This method gives a fairly decent result.

The shine from the plastercine is hard to get rid. I usually just use it as a base then spray dark yellow or some flat colors to tone it down. I sprinkle find sand and stones and add static grass if need. These will somewhat remove the shine. U can give a final layer of matt coat if u want.

I think you got the pattern right if you intend to do splinter camo pattern. However, you seems to have used dark yellow (at least the photo shows so) as the base color and it gave me the feel of a Marsh pattern camo. Probably you should apply field grey as the base? Just a suggestion.
Nevertheless, its always nice to see picture post. Nice dio and a cool duo.

tanx DAK..its juz my experimenting fjs..i got a few more in hand...
anyway i got the pattern for the camo by referring to my 1/6 fj figures, i know there are quite a few pattern...
the one use in CRETE and MONTE CASSINO was a plain dark yellow jumpsmock, the one in ARDENNES was a bit of a field grey & battlion 500 was an SS pea-dot type...
i actually refer to my 1/6 figure for the camo...i'll post up a few more fjs when im done...
