Never regarded myself as a 'lucky' kinda guy. Ok I've got a great wife & kids that I love to bits, and I'm reasonably healthy, but on the job front I've never been able to make the kind of money to get the lifestyle we want, and been made redundant three times so far.
The company I work for put everybody (280 people) under threat of redundancy on June7th this year, so we've been 'bricking it' since then thinking "Oh god, why us" thoughts.
On Friday (yesterday) I had a 2nd interview for a job only 5 miles from home ( I drive 70 a day at the moment) and they told me there & then that it was mine. Ok, still gotta wait for the letter before I quit the one job I have now, but I'm feeling kinda good right now. Money is the same, but the saving on petrol, tyres etc will be like having a pay rise..... £800-£900 a year I reckon.
On the back of that I found an internet shop that was selling £499 sets of graphite-shafted Tommy Armour golf clubs for £99, so I'm having a set custom fitted for me! (without SWMBO trying to kill me for buying them - must be a good deal!)
Sorry to go ona bit - but like I said I'm kinda chuffed right now and wanted to share it with my 2nd family!! :-)

Nice one Dave! It's a good feeling when a little bit of good luck comes your way eh? By the way....how do you find time for Golf when there are all these models to be built?

It's one interest that my 14yr old son and I share, so I make time!. Besides, I've been in a bit of a block for a while in modelling - making all my models look the same, and fed up with the sme subjects. Had a commission come through though that has bought me a figure that I've been working on for a couple of weeks now - the new Pili-Pili Highlander.

Thanks Vinnie

Good Luck on the new job..... I happy for you.
As someone who drove 100 plus miles a day doing service work I was extremely happy to get a sit on my butt, and build models state job. I was even happier, when I relocated 8 miles from work, knocking off a 45 mile commute each way. That 45 miles could turn into sometimes 2 hours of sitting in traffic, due to accidents, or weather. Now, 15 munites tops.

In my case the commission paid for the highlander - the job is painting resin wargame buildings for a US Serviceman that has bought stuff from me before. I got the kilt painred today, but the sett is so complex for the space available that I've simplified it slightly.

Arthur, Maybe tomorrow depending on the available light, finished it tonight. I'm very satisfied with it, one of the most evocative sculptings I've ever seen although my paint job probably doesn't do it justice!

I commute each day and its 75 to 90 minutes each way. A job close to home would be a dream come true for me at the minute. I can appreciate how you feel about this. Good luck to you Dave, everything happens for a reason as they say!
