Good Evening Gentlemen,
I have decided on my first model and have just ordered it!
It's a Tamiya 1/48 scale Mosquito Mk.XIII/XVII.
Any feedback regarding this kit will be interesting and useful.
Also I have decided to splurge and I have ordered a couple of dioramas books, namely,
How to Build Dioramas 2nd Edt.
Building Military Dioramas Vol.I
Again any feedback on these books will be useful.
I must say, that I was in between jobs when I joined the website, believing I would have time to devote to model building and to achieve creating and building a diorama, something I have aspired to since I was a teenager. I am quite fortunate now to have accepted a new job on Friday, so now I will have to devote time to my 'creating' in my spare time. I guess like everyone else.
I look forward to many more discussions with yourselves in the foreseeable future. I believe that I will need all your help in building this kit.
Again, all feedback regarding the kit and books will be favourably taken.
Regards
Christopher

Welcome to this great site - it's good to see another Aussie here.
I haven't done the Mark XIII/XVII Mossie but I assume it is based on the Mark VI kit and I really enjoyed building that. The only hiccups I recall are that the interior detail gets lost once the canopy is on and the fit of the rear of the engine nacelles to the wing needed a bit of filler. At least you get crew figures.
I have Volume 1 of Shep Paines book and have found it very useful. I am not familiar with the socind book you mention - however like all things modelling I am sure that it will have a couple of things in it that you will use.
This is the BEST site around - don't fear asking any question. The only dumb questions are the unasked ones. You will normally get good answers in a very short time (unlike some other sites I no longer visit where the tone of the responses is distasteful)
Don't be shy about posting images of your work - the feedback is very helpful.
I look forward to talking to you again here.
Brian

G'day,
I built this subject for a mag review when the kit first was released in OZ, it is an add on of the NF II/FB VI kit, one thing I apart [from the small areas already mentioned regarding filler],
was changed the wing tip radar reciever antenias of the kit for pieces of soft wire.
One tip to concider:-
On the kit instruction, for the wing assembly, don't glue the wings or the wing lock pin plates out untill the model has been painted, this would give you a better application to the cammo, than having the wings fixed and then masking everything.
If you would like to see the 'Bull Nose' version I built e-mail me and I'll send them to you.

Hi Rob,
If you could email me the photos that would be great.
I was looking at the Osprey Publishing site the other day and they have just released a new book, building the Tamiya 1/72 & 1/48 Mosquito. I am in the process of trying to order it. My thinking is the more information I can get the better my results will be.
Cheers [email protected] [email protected]
