Well, iam a 16 year old student and i am attending my last year of higth school. I started passing hte papers when i was 12 for a perfiod of 2 years, and when i quite the job due to the fact i moved away, my father got my a job at michel gohier( we build dump bodies) this is my second summer working there. i got hired to sweep the floor, but in hte past year were i worked part time, i learned how to opperate 90 percent of the parts department were we drill, saw, punch and weld various parts of metals that that are later assembled to the dumb body. A full time employee will get hired at 10$ imediatly and they dont know a 4 fourth of the stuff i know. Just to let you know, the boss hired a new employee as an all around guy whcih is basicly what i do. but hes hired full time. he claimed to know how to weld. which we realized was false.

Now were iam getting at is that, i Dont understand how i went througt sweat and pain jsut to get a little little apreciation, reconition , and a 50 cent raise, while they hire someone who cant weld whatsoever, has no experience and pay him 10 $ an hour, and after seeing how horrible of a welder he is, send him to weld on a body because were short of staff...The kid is 18, droped out of school, wants to become a welder but doesnt want to finish his school to then attend welding school.

Iam a very versatile employee, i cant weld, grind, cut with a torch, the pieces i saw and drill and punch have an accuracy range of 1/16th of an inch, i can do anything required on hte lift, i have my math 426, and an average of 92 percent in my end of year for math, french, science and history, with the lowest mark being 88... And because im a student giving his 110 pecent at school and work i deserves a lower pay than someone whos full time but isnt seriouse in life and reduces the quality of hte companys product....

why should i bother trying to get pieces so persise to have a higth quality finish when htey hire peopel to ruin my job?

sorry for hte ranting, this stuff has been making me furious

Maybe i see it hte wrong way? id be glad to know what you guys sincerly think
thanks
Francois

Francois,

I, like so many others have been where you are now. You are being a conciensous employee, and get no recognition, whilst mr. D@@khead takes the glory and the cash. It is not worth getting in a flap over. Just think, you are gaining valuable work experience, if not only in skill but also in time served. This will help you on when you go to your next job. Maybe your next employer will appriciate an employee who does his best, and won't sink to the lowest common denominator. And as for the 'skills' of your colleage, one day a very angry customer will want to know why the sub-standard welding on his dumper caused it to break, or even cause an accident.... I can see the lawyers circkling already.. .

Cheers
Henk

Well Henk, thats a pretty accurate way to describe whats been going on lately lol, cheers me up to know iam not alone. The only reason why i did stay is because i like the job i do, i jsut dont apreciate being seen inferior to others due to my age. I firmly Believe a raise should be awarded upon merit and not age.

Jonathan, Your right ,my fatehr did get be the job. Back tehn he was more of a foreman because the BIG boss wasnt there and left my dad in charge of my working hours etc. lately we have had soem structural changes, my father decided to take less responsibilities, so there for iam under the command of someone who was givin the task to coordinate the employees and assign them to there post, hire employees etc. Kind of confusing, but anyhow... iam no more my fathers son at work, iam an employee who knows what he has to do and gladly accepts task from fellow employees in order to finish the job faster.

BTW, if something breaks or someone is injured due to you welding, its the employeers problem, and no one can sue you, engeneers get around to make sure everything is fine. thats how it works at my place, maybe its different from one place to the other

Francois, you are being groomed for bigger things in that company.Be patient. The dirt bag you are talking about is only temporary and only makes you look better.Let him hang himself,so to speak, and be ready to 'save the day' when the time comes. If this does not work, well then be prepared to move on,where-ever that is.Stay cool.
cheers

Hi Francois.

What can I say: Welcome to live! :-)

I totally agree with the others above about gaining valuable work experience, skills and talents.
OK, you'll face this guy but remeber you are two years younger and bether allready
Actually you have a good boss letting you learn all this; for the same you were still sweeping the floors. Now you are so much further allready!

Be patient; before you know it you are welding together with the Teutels at OCC :-)
