I have just finished reading Rick Atkinson's "In the Company Of Soldiers" - very good book about 101st Airborne operations during OIF. Now I would like to get some more detailed information about other units that were fighing in Iraq in March/April 2003, particularly 3rd ID and Marine units. Could someone suggest some good OIF books, preferably also written by people who actually were there?

Pawel,
Check out these books, They are great reads and were recommended by Dave Harper ( IIRC) on Planet Armor.
An Nasiriryah: The FIght for the Bridges by Gary Livingston
ISBN :1-928724-04-3 Hardcover.
I Am My Brothers Keeper, Journal of a Gunny in Iraq. By Gy Sgt Jason K. Doran. USMC Ret.
ISBN : 1-928724-05-1
Ironically these two books are related to each other because Gy Sgt Doran was in the unit that the first book was written about.
Both books are USMC oriented and great reads. I enjoyed them very much. They will cost around 20-25 USD and should be availiable online.
Regards
Matt

"Thunder Run" is very good.
Amazon Linkage:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0871139111/104-1729035-7785528?v=glance
Not as many maps as I thought it needed and no pics, though...

Thunder Run is a must, hands down.
To compliment it is LT Conway's autobiography of Charlie Company in the 2nd Brigade (I don't remember the full unit name), titled "Heavy Metal" It follows C CO's time from Kuwait through the Thunder Runs (:| sounds like a night of Mexican food gone bad) and the immediate aftermath of the fall of Baghdad and Iraq.
"Generation Kill", is good, if somewhat rough (not overly violent, just a rough read) following a unit of Force Recon Marines.
Ambush Alley : The Most Extraordinary Battle of the Iraq War by Tim Pritchard just came out and looks good, but I haven't read it yet.

The March Up : Taking Baghdad with the 1st Marine Division, was an excellent book, highly recommended if you want a good read from the first hour of the ground war(w/ the 1st USMC divison), to the fall of Baghdad.
This was written by Bing West, and Maj. General Ray Smith (USMC Retired) when they were attached to the 1st Marine Div.
Good pictures too ;-)
Generation Kill is my next read, my dad said it was very good
here is an Amazon book special, buy The March Up AND Generation Kill for only $33.44 pretty good deal if you ask me

Yup- I'd agree with the other recommendations:
Thunder Run (I'm about due for a re-read)
Generation Kill
Heavy Metal
The March Up
