Hi Hilbert!

At the moment I get 'fatal errors' 3 times a week at least so I can feel the pain. Nothing left to do than switching off the system than...
(You noticed it once during MSN, last week; I was gone in a flash)

I've had so many problems with Windows in the past.
But when I came to installing Windows several times a week I replaced the harddisk and that seemed to work.
It can be a hardware problem. What Window version are you using and what system do you have?

A few months ago I litterly 'blew up' my system: I just switched it on and saw a flash comming out the pc and it smelled like fire... Nothing worked anymore.
The powertransformer inside was gone, as well as my cd-writer, disk station and keyboard. Some other parts survived. Funny enough: the fuses that would prevent this from happening was still OK...

I suspect an intergalactic conspiracy against Microsoft... Perhaps aliens are trying to tell us something :-)

When I got some money 'left' (or when I grow up) I'm gonna buy an Apple, because they don't seem to have as much problems as the "Gates machines" we all wanted to have. I see them actually in every proffesional business were people are working with graphics and photo's. But they say it's a whole different world... so I hesitate a bit.

uhhh

Oke here it comes...

I've have XP..... 448 Mhz processor, total 35 GB harddisk's (are two disk's)
The PC is from Dell, it was an old PC from my dad's work.

But what I'm going to buy is always better then what I have now! :-)

I've never heard from a PC system ''Apple'' only those music things.. I pod's I believe.
I said to a friend, ''I've 0,00000000000000001% knowledge about computers, I'm dumb :-) :-) :-)

I think this is your problem. XP requires a much faster processor than you're using.

I agree with above: try 'good old' Windows '98 (use the second edition...) Perhaps it will make the time untill you have a new PC more pleasant.

using slow processor would not recommended on windose xp platform... try format and install windows 98 SE or windose millenium.... both of them can withstand slow processor....

btw, i'm using DELL computer and based on my experience with others brands, it's still ok... i dont face any problem with it... now the office had upgrade most of our DELL PCs with the latest DELL offering... but my old dell pc was iven to someone else, and that pc starting to give trouble up till now.... i dont know it's about me or about DELL... haha...

if u're still fond of Gates product then u may try to use HP/Compaq...otherwise an apple would be great... another alternatives is to use Linux...

I am running Windows XP.

I have an AMD 64 2800+ processor... Motherboard is a Asrock K8S8X, thing runs smooth as well (so far). On this system I have never ever had to reinstall Windows XP other then because of hardware changes (and failures). Mind you, if using an S-ATA HD on which WIndows is to be installed, FIRST download the correct motherboard drivers. Odds are WIndows XP does not have them and therefor will not recognise your HD when you want to install the program (have to install the drivers first).

Now the obsolete part of my computer is my videocard... but there are worse problems to be solved. Rome TW runs smoothly (except for fire-arrows thanks ton my videocard).

It's been my experience that Windows XP works best on clean install as opposed to an upgrade install. But for a clean install you will need a boot disk with CD ROM drivers or have an option to select your CD ROM in your boot sequence in the BIOS.

Slowest machine I've had it on is a Pentium 3 933Mhz and it worked fine. One of the most important things is to have plenty of RAM and free hard disk space for the temporary cache.

After building my last 4 PCs, I finally got a Dell and even though it's BIOS options are limited it's been a good computer. Just have to spend to a certain level to ensure it's got an AGP video slot so you can upgrade that later if needed.

hi again...

yes clean install is the best choice and u will be upgraded to service pack 2 when using microsoft updates features.

i have install more then 10 windose xp in the office and to me, CD-rom drivers is the the problem ..just change the setting in your PC BIOS to = boot from CD-ROM and when u boot, automatically the boot loader will read the cd-rom contents.
and another options prior to install windose xp...
you have 2 options actually regarding the hard disk volume format..u can either choose the xp to be run on FAT32 volume or ntfs (a special format for windose nt, windose 2000 and xp as well)...
FAT32 will not slow the pc while ntfs will. both have their pro and cons ..the only major different from ntfs and FAT32 is ntfs have more security features and good security management unlike the FAT32... but u dont have to worry much about security issue unless u want to run a secure server or things like that...
if u choose to use FAT32 then u have the chance to convert the volume to ntfs later by using the command prompt ... but this is irreversible...u cant convert back to FAT32 !! but a friend of mine said, he knew the way to convert then back to FAT32..but i didnt quite sure this will work. According to microsoft tech website, u can convert the volume from ntfs to FAT32... the solution is to format the hard disk...

just be sure which volume u will want.... try get expert advise ...

my 2 cents
