I thought I would give an update on my progress with paint removal .
Original thread: free stash thread
I had alot of suggestions for methods of paint removal, & the first one I try was a great success.
Castral Super Clean, $6.00cdn for a 946ml spray bottle.
I put all the figures in a zipup baggy and sprayed 5 or 6 shots of this stuff and let sit for 10-15 mins, then rinsed them off . A quick going over with a tooth brush and I have a big pile of clean figures. Same with the AFVs spray this stuff all over them and let them sit in the sink for a few minutes and presto, rinse off and ready for new paint.
-Seems to work great on acrylic paint and not great with oil based stuff or decals.
-This stuff is actually a degreasers so it is a great prep for future paint
-Vapors are about as strong as other house hold cleaners ie: Fantastic

Thanks again guys for all the suggestions

Hey Bruce glad to here that it worked. I use Simple Green which is the same as the Castrol Super Clean. How long did it take to work! As I said before sometimes with in ½ hour it started to work, I also had no problems with removing the oils though it did take a little longer. I want to say it took about four days. Another thing with using the product is that it will also remove the chrome plating from plastic pieces.

Hi Joe ,
After 10 or 15 minute your ready for the rinse. I didn't go much past 1/2 hr, so I don't know if the enamels would have come off any easier after a longer period.
Good thing to know about the chrome coming off as well. Seems to me I remember cleaning the dash of an old Chev 1/2 ton and what ever I was using stripped the "chrome" plating right off, ....may have been "spray nine", hmmm maybe something else to try on our models?
