Hi guys,
sorry to drop in your community forum, but I have I specific questions.
Q1: What kind of helmets did the crew of a Chieftain wear, a picture or links to pictures would be nice.
Q2: Were could I find out in which unit a Chieftain with reg. 05EB40 served
Thanks,
Kris

Hi Kris,
Crews wore 2 types of helmet, the early 'bonedome' one had integrated headphones but was very bulky and disliked by the crews.
this was replaced with the current issue one,
i cant seem to find any pictures on the net for you at the moment but ill keep trying.
as for which unit your tank served in i dont know. i can consult my references when i get home, i know for a fact i can tell you where it is now-i have a list of what happened to all of them
regards
Joe

You are a VERY lucky man!
well thats a stillbrew tank, so they would have definately used the later helmet. i bet you could pick one up on ebay or a british surplus store for next to nothing.
if you need one i can check my local surplus store, they have the helmets, without intercom kit if i recall.

no problem mate,
if you have the intercoms thats even better. the helmets are made of plastic, with velcro strips inside to secure the headsets.
they are pretty lightweight(not ballistically protective, just stops you bumping your head!) so id imagine the postage would be fairly cheap too.
how many do you need, as if you need them i could get them and post them over. i get an armed forces discount from the place

Once again thank you for all the effort.
We don't use it for reenactment. The Chieftain is property of the Royal Army museum in Brussel (although not stationed there, but in the central depot) and is mainly used for demonstration purposes.
We do try to make things as authentic as possible, so thank you for the tip on the uniforms. We already had contact with some suppliers, but strangely enough the helmets were a problem...

cool,
if you want authentic then any pattern of uniforms prior to 94 pattern will be fine for a late model cheiftan.
unfortunately i cant find out what unit your tank belonged to, but if you can tell me the callsign i can tell you its position with the troop etc. it would usually be painted on the turret somewhere.
