Hi everyone..

was a bit bored last night and thought i'd count my paints rather than my unbuilt stash again....

and I think i'm obsessed or worse....

270 bottles of Model master enamal.
30 cans of Testors Spray paint.
10 polyscale's.
20 Tamiya's
2 humbrol's....
20 tubes of oils.
20 tubes of water colors.
and a few odds and ends..

I started thinking about it.. I build about 4 models a year and use maybe 1 bottle on basecoat...... its enough to drive a fellow mad if he thinks to long about this.........

46 tins Humbrol Authentic enamel
36 tins Xtracolor enamel
112 bottles MM enamel
16 bottles MM acrylic
24 bottles Gunze aqueous
52 bottles Tamiya acrylic
13 bottles Floquil
12 bottles Polly S
13 tubes of oils

Build rate: about 4 kits per year

Now that's too much paint I must say!

I've built about 30 models during the 3 years of modelling, and I have just used roughly:

60 Tamiya enamel bottles
20 Gunze spray cans
3 Mr. Surfacer spray cans
3 Tamiya acrylic bottles
10 Tamiya spray cans
4 Testors enamel bottles
4 Gunze laquer bottles

Ever since I started using my airbrush, I cling on to my Tamiya enamel bottles. I can paint two 1/35 armor using 1 Tamiya enamel (10cc) as a basecoat).

I used to think I was obsessed with paint, but looking over your stashes I'm not even in the same league. I don't have as many paints all told as you have of MM alone Delbert, or you have in Humbrol Kevin.

I'll bet I don't have 40 paints all together.

Of course I've only been doing it a few years. Each time I do a model it seems there is at least one paint I have to get.

Ok - I'm not there YET. I'm slowly getting there. My problem is shelf life - they dry up to quickly so I recycle them pretty fast.
I've only got about 50 Tamiya's 10 or so other brands and 15 oil tubes.

Rodger, I ended up with all those Humbrol's quite by accident. I saw two posts on other forums where people were looking to unload large qty's for low prices. Even including shipping from the UK, I got about 40 tins of Humbrol Authentics aircraft colors for about $1 each. Never been opened. The other resulted in 67 tins of various armor shades for $50 inclusive.

Just ran off to count.

22 1/4fl.oz bottles of testors enamel
7 1/4fl.oz bottles of testors acrylic

6 1/2fl.oz bottles of model master acrylic
4 1/2fl.oz bottles of model master enamel

3 23ml bottles of tamiya acrylic
6 10ml bottles of tamiya acrylic

1 59ml bottle of odds ‘n’ ends enamel

4 paint markers

11 random sized tubes of random brands of oil paint.

I have just got back in to the hobby a few month ago ( some of the paint is from before) and haven’t finished anything yet.

I do need to get more paint before I can start on my one project.

Modeler's Rule # 8: No matter how much paint you have, your next project always requires at least one color you don't have.

Rule # 8 Subsection B: Your Local hobbyshop will be out of the one color you need for your next project.

Hi all!

I use almost only Tamiya acrylics. I have approx. 60 of them! I have some Humbrol enamels only for drybrushing and Testor's Metalizer for metal finish. I don't buy other brands as I'm happy with what I have and try to do the best with it!
I always buy the 60 same references of paint, not more! If I don't have the right color, I do some mixing and keep the leftover for next builds.

I don't try to buy every color possibly available from various manufacturers. Like Delbert said, you never have the right color anyway! So trust your eyes and mix! Preshade, postshade, weather, wash and the color will change anyway!

Did you know that with Black, White, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow you can mix ALL the colors you can imagine! Even the most obscure long forgotten secret late war Luftwaffe "Spezial Fertigung" RLM 999!

Unfortunatly there's no Cyan or Magenta in the Tamiya acrylics range!
