Guys

I need to scream, and to talk to those who can understand the pain. At around 7:30pm this evening I was at my desk working on a diorama which was to feature Tamiya's Horch. I've been working on this project since Feb. I reached up to get something from my organizer and I must have pulled to hard on the drawer or something, because a box on oil paints I had on top of the organizer fell. It landed right on top of the Horch. The 20mm that was on the rear was a total loss. The vehicle itself is heavily damaged but might be able to be saved. I still need to look at it a little closer. The base is trashed. ground work all busted, stuff missing. My roommate heard me yelling and thought and I quote
"thought something serious happen" So I figured I would come to those who would understand. Salvage efforts will start tomorrow.

Harry,

I feel your pain mate !

It's a good thing to let it be overnight and have a fresh look at it again tomorrow.

It's a pain, but it can't be undone... Don't let it frustrate you, it is as it is right now. Perhaps you should step away for it for a few days and, when the pain is gone, have a new attempt again.

I've had a similar experience during the Remember Market Garden Campaign.... my diorama got crashed too. I hurt, but it's all in the past now....looking forward, that's what's important.

Good Luck mate, I'm sure the diorama will get out of it in a better way....

Hi Harry!

I agree with Danny! If something like that happens to me (and it happens not only in modelling), I always say to myself the model I was working on wasn't good enough and it will turn out better once redone!

This won't probably help you a lot, but it's the way I deal with these kind of things!

Good luck anyway in your rescue attempt!

Well as u guess in my 25+ years of modelling i have dealed with situations like this less or more. Sometimes the effort to save wasnt worth. I mean if too much paint spill all over and damaged painted kit and ground work and all its pretty difficult to come back in the initial stage .

On the other hand as Danny says , if u look it at the next morning with cold heart u can see what is to be fixed and what is not .

Some times is better to get started from the beginning . I wish u the best of luck and if any pocibilitie of help or advice i ll be here

What needs to be salvaged? Just the parts of your work or various parts of your rommate as well?

Best of luck with damage-control... I hope it is not a total loss...

Around 20 years ago, I had about 50 completed models displayed on a cheap metal bookshelf. My daughter was just learning to walk, and guess what she tried to pull herself up on?? She didn't get a scratch on her, but now I've got a great spare parts bin. :-) :-) Don't stress it. Fix what you can, and save the rest for the parts bin. And find somewhere else to put your paint box!

Have totl empathy for you my friend - ish I could turn back the clock But I can't so I just support you thru this stage of modelling
I dropped my high King Dwarf just after showing the finished piece to Wife - My great son told me to sit down and he picked up the pieces and put them on my desk - 1 hr later after a coffe I saw that there was damage but I repaired it- so if I can so can you
Also was exhibiting my Train Layout for the very first time -was actually stringing my telegraph lines and some duderhead while looking caught the thead in his feet and pulled the telegraph line down and knock of the layout onto a concrete floor my $300 loco - again friend got me a drink sent the other fellow well out of my reach :-) and then in 20 minutes helped me to salvage and reglue the locoo and Telegraph line - Photos were taken, interviewed by 4 TV crews and was voted one of the most popular layouts-see positives can happen

I know how you feel, Harry. Just want to kick the out of something or someone. A couple of weeks ago I had completed 90% of the painting on a 1/16 fig and was particularly pleased with the cam pattern jacket I'd done. I was in the process of gluing on the pouches when I spilt superglue right across the upper torso. Ended up having to strip the entire thing (including paintjob) with turpentine. Put it away and haven't been able to look at it since. Will go back to it in a month or two.

I know how you feel.. I still remember the first time it happened to me.. I was working on the wing alingment on a Stuka (tropical version) and one of the wings just snapped off at the base.. I put it in a box and still havn't been able to put it back on the bench yet...... the frustration is just too real.......... :-)

Once I dropped a heavy reference book flat onto the model truck I was building. Snapped off all the wheel axles, smashed the cab, and broke the bed off the frame. It happens to all of us!!

Sorry to hear it. Try watching your entire collection get destroyed by your soon to be x wife. And you know you can't touch her while she's doing it. A woman can have you put away in an instant even if they are the ones to get your blood boiling. That happened to me my friend, I feel your pain. She even stomped on the boxes of models not yet built! Her finnally was cutting all my clothes in half, I had expensive leather riding wear, pants, coats, one of a kind stuff hand made. When I walked out the door, I had nothing in my hands, there was nothing to take! It was all gone! She even sold my motorcycle without me knowing! Thank God I didn't have a dog! Who knows what would have happened to it?

I feel your pain. It's got to have happened to everybody here at least once. The one major time I remember getting a kit wrecked I put it aside for a bit and keep going back to it from time to time. So far I haven't tried to rebuild it, just figured it was good practice for the next time.

Harry, I can allmost feel your pain. A couple of years a go I dropped a full bottle of very thin, and very strong glue on a 99% finished M1A1 Abrams. It could have survived if it had been a mobility- or a weapon kill, but this was a total kill. The Tank basically melted before my eyes.

I hope you manage to restore your Horch and the 20 mike mike. Good luck.

I have a guy that comissions me to paint civil war figures for him, about 10 a year. Everytime he gets into a fight with his wife, she goes and snaps the heads off. :-) :-) He brings me the box and I have to figure what goes where. Hang in there, mate

It took me 6 months to recover and continue a build that had been broken by MYSELF dropping something on it. Yes it is completed but I am ever so much more careful where I place things around my models.

Know were you are coming from! The fustration does have to vented. Then you have to suck back, assess the loss and go from there. Often it is better to just walk away and cool off! You can always come to the big 'A' to lament your losses with those that understand. It does help the healing process. Best of luck on the salvage effort.
