Can you believe it...???
We all know that Costas's generousity has no bounds, and many have enjoyed his free Give away " Subject: 5 Rare Truck Kits Give Away - No 1".
I was even lucky enough to win one..

But there are still people replying to have their name added to the list!!
6 weeks late... It just goes to show that many don't bother to read a tread from the start, but just butt in at the end. I wonder how long this one will keep going. Mind you, when it dissapears of the 'latast post' page, I presume the only way you would come accross it is by doing a search for " kits give away" .....Hmmm I wonder what a Google search for 'free beer ' comes up with.. :-) :-) :-)

Mind how you go

I have PM'ed one of the moderaters to lock the topics so they do not keep reappearing. I also note one member who is posting just an emicon or one word like WOW. I found another thread with about 6 or 7 of his posts like this too. It is called 'Posting for rank" I believe.

There are a lot who do not read the posts fully before they leap in and place their feet in their mouths.

Well I do the same.. but then I don't post.
If I really want to post I read it all first, with a dictionary...like right now :-) :-)

I think all the people must do this..

so.. post only if you read the whole topic!!

Sorry I couldn't resist

I find it amusing....... and certainly does prove that people just post, and not read the thread first.
As Art Linkletter use to say: "People are funny!"

MrRoo,
what is the problem with "Posting for rank"? are there any additional privileges if you become general? What if he/shi is really "WOW'd"?

this is a forum... freedom of speech... i think as long as someone is not stepping out of bounds in his/her posts, i think other members should have no problems with it...

just my two cents...

It is a waste of bandwidth which you or they do not pay for. Also a waste of my time and money cause I pay the fees to download this sort of tripe and don't see why I should. If you want to post childishly do it in the Junk draw forum and not in serious (or suppose to be) model forums.

No, this is a scale model forum, and I come here to read about scale models. If you want freedom of speech, there are millions of other sites to speek freely on.

He or shi could WOW and then explain what he or shi is WOW´d about. It could lead to apt conversations.
If he or shi only writes WOW too often it could lead others to believe they have only two keys left on their keyboard and one of them is wearing out faster than the other..
All the above is my opinion on the matter.

Other members do have a problem with it. If you read the site FAQ, it is quite clear on this also.
Admins and forum moderators reserve the right to close or delete any post that does not provide a clear and purposefull topic. There are many members who still use 28.8 and 56k modems that do not have the time to wade through useless and senseless topics.

Anyone who posts just to increase their Armorama.com Forums stats or post topics out of boredom risk having there topics closed, removed and/or membership revoked.

freedom of speech ---> regarding scale models.... i'm not referring to any other thing actually... i don't understand your comment...

WOW = Used to express wonder, amazement, or great pleasure. - www.dictionary.com

WOW is actually an appropriate response if someone sees something that he/she is amazed with... now, how he/she will explain why he/she is WOW'd, i don't think we can control that or have control over that... do we want to delete all those "WOW" posts from the forums?... and i also don't see why we need to do that....

peace! now back to modelling...

Now THAT is a succinct reply

Just let me help and clarify the Freedom of Speech thingy. This is a privately owned site and as such the owner/operator has the right to refuse admission (like a bar - if they don't like your face or behaviour, out you go!) In reality, this rarely happens, only when someone steps way over the site rules. Sorry, but no, freedom of speech is not one of the intentions of this site, it is a modelling forum with all the ancillary bits and pieces that modelling requires. It's not a soap-box, it's a modelling site....Jim

I don't think anyone but the owner and staff members of this site has the right to dictate how someone words a post (as long as it's not obscene or otherwise offensive), do you?

While it's great to encourage people to be constructive in their criticism, you can hardly bully people into elaborating on their enthusiasm if they don't want to, which is what MrRoo seems to be attempting. if someone wants to say "wow" or "great" or "cool", so be it. It is sometimes equally annoying to scroll down a thread and find the exact same comments on a topic repeated ad nauseum. Sometimes the exact sentence, making me wonder if people are just copying someone else's comment just to seem intelligent. I'd rather have a "wow".

Who cares about rank anyway? Does it mean one is a great modeller just coz one's a general or an admiral? I believe Ron Volstad's still a 2nd lieutenant on this site. It's all monopoly money.

So since MrRoo doesn't seem to be a staff member, and unless he has recently bought the site, I suggest he stick to modelling topics and leave the running of the site to the staff.

Cheers

Cliff has (and continues to make) an enormous contribution to this site. As such I really think he deserves to be shown considerably more respect than your dismissive comments suggest.

Comments such as 'Wow!', 'Awesome' and (even worse) single emoticons, are possibly o.k. in a text message - this is a website, not a cellphone. The prime function of this site, is as a forum for modelling. Cliff is correct, they are childish, pointless and add nothing to the level of the site.

If you have nothing to say, don't say it, is always a good rule of thumb...Jim

Hi all,

Before this decends into another slanging match with regards to 'freedom of speech' (which is a sore point over here at the moment anyway) My post is regarding rhose who do not read the rest of the posts in a tread.
My biggest gripe is when somebody goes to some lenght to upload photo's, and adds a small write up to explain which scale, kit, and possible AM kits and tracks etc are used. There will always be one (usualy more than one...) who will ask : which kit is it, did you use AM tracks etc etc. READ THE POST...

As for ' posting for rank' , as they usualy don't have anything usefull to say, I don't get involved. They don't last the distance...

I'll step down from my soapbox ( for now ) and go back to work.

Cheers
Henk

Point of fact. We have had (and continue to see) some members posting for the simple gratification of seeing their name on screen or to reach a new rank level. If you have something useful, topical, funny or informative to say in a modeling related forum than do so. If you are going to post THREE consecutive posts with one word responses or responses that could have been summed up in one post then expect to get categorized as someone who is posting for rank or worse, ego.

I don't make these rules. They are well established rules of conduct (IE: Internet Etiquette) and the result of simple human behavioral patterns.

That said I assume Cliff is directing his comments at just a few members (out of close to a thousand active members). So I don't see why everyone needs to get hot under the collar about it. If your not spamming the forum on a regular basis than what is the problem?

Thanks,
Jim

PS: AND I almost forgot... this is WHY WE HAVE A "HIDE USER" BUTTON. So Cliff, and others, I suggest you use it.
