Hi everyone
i jrecently got a bottle of clear coats at the hobby store
I was just reading another forum topic and they were talking about "shooting" or"airbrushing" clear coats
Can I just brush my clear coats on my model.. and not airbrush them????

It is advisable either to use a spray can of clear coat and/or airbrush a bottle of clear coat than brushing them on. Brushing might leave marks and uneven painting.

I have 'spot' brushed clear coat (antiglare panels on Natural finish plane) with no real problem. Ensure nice even coverage with your brush...But if I look real close I do see brush strokes..so I would stick to sparying or try on sample piece to see what you get

Just a suggestion but if it was me I would grab a spraycan of Testors Glosscote and Dullcote. Much better coverage and a lot less hassle. I have spot brushed gloss coats (Future) in areas where I was going to put decals but I think trying to gloss coat a whole model with a brush would be a real pain.

if it's Testor's Dull or Gloss, you cannot brush them on. They are laquer based and will mess up you paint finish. You can do very minor touch up, but you ocan't do a whole model with this.

I would buy a bottle of Future at the local cleaning aisle and skip the testors glosscoat completely. I started off hand brishing glosscoat on aircraft then switched to the testors rattle can of gloss but it was very hard to get good results. Hand brushing was always streaky. The guys on armorama got me to use future and I have never looked back. Works for decal prep, protecting base coat when doing washes...almost anything you can think off. It seems thinner than the testors glosscoat and brushes on smooth if you are careful. Plus you get the yummy smell. Do a little search and see some of the articles and threads on using it. You prob can steal a small bottle from your mom's stash to get started.

I use Polly Scale Flat and only ever brush it on. Make it very thin though and it only takes a few minutes to cover a 1/35 tank.

I use Future (kindly sent to be by a mate in the US) as a gloss coat and I always spray it on.
For flat coat I also use Polly Scale clear flat and that is also always sprayed on.

Cheers

In direct answer to your question, yes you can brush it on. Use very, very thin coats. It will build up very quickly. As has been said above, caution is the word.
