Don't you just love moving to a new place; especially having to sort through all your model stuff? You wouldn't think it was that hard - just put everything in boxes, label them, and be on the way. But, what if you didn't have enough room to move everything?

I'm moving halfway across the country on Thursday, and I need to cram everything I can into 2 Saturn Ions. My parents will be driving one, I'll take the other. Unfortunately, there's probably other stuff that needs to go in the car before all my model stuff... (like, clothes for example... ).

This leaves me packing what models I can into a few smallish boxes, hoping they make the final cut. Of course, it's got to be prioritized with what I really want to have with me. With a collection of about 50 models, this isn't the easiest thing to do...
"Tamiya's Dragon Wagon, I love you... but I'm afraid you're too fat. You'll have to stay behind."

It's like choosing between kids, in a way. "Suzie, you're too fat to fit in the car with the rest of your brothers. I'll have my folks cram you in a box and mailed off in a few weeks." Heh... that's what my 1/96 Saturn V is feeling right now.

As it stands now, my "must take" pile has about 38 models. The "leave behind" has 12 or so.

I see an epic battle of wills tomorrow.

So, anyone else got some stories about moving thier model collection?

May you prevail! I'm moved many times with my models - and no real problems to speak of.

It is nice to see your callsign here again...

Yoda, good to see you back on the site. I move every 2-3 years, but I have Uncle Sam foot the bill for moving my stuff. I hand carry many in progress kits, others I just stuff back into the box and hope for the best.

If you have someone you trust at your starting end, you can give them money and have them ship your kits to you via UPS or FedEx once you have a shipping address.

Check out one of my more recent posts from July to see how many kits can get out of hand.

We'd thought of a U-haul, both the pull behind and a small truck. Thing is, the truck wouldn't be that fun to drive around the mountains in Virginia... ...and those pull behind things - well, let's just say we've had "experience" with those before. :-)

*narrative voice*So far, stuff is piling up - the models haven't made it in yet. The fate of dozens of models hangs in the balance - stay tuned!

Good to hear from everybody again!

I'll be moving in about a month. Fortunately I'm only going about 1/2 mile and my model room will be set up before I move in. I'm sure that there will be a few snags however.
