OK, this thought process is a bit off the wall, but yesterday as I sat at he 'puter and played a Playlist (while surfing Armorama) I got to wondering...

What music best characterizes the feelings of our troops ( "our" means whatever Nation your troops are from- no intent to pi%s off anyone). What songs sum up the feelings, the bonds, the honor, the emotion, well you get the picture.

I went through my list and came up with my top 3 (I am not a vet...)

#1 Brothers in Arms- Dire Straits
#2 American Soldier- Toby Kieth
#3 Battle Hymn of the Republic- Lee Greenwood version

It'll be intersting to see what other songs show up on this list.

I know numerous soldiers listened to "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" before battle too. Not quite patriotic, but...

How about Courtesy of the RED, WHITE and BLUE - the part about the boot in the arse - is VERY motivating.

God Smacks - "I stand alone" is another kick butt take no names hard rocking song.

Daryell Worleys - "Have you Forgotten" Puts the "why" am I in Iraq, Afganistan into perspective.

Just out of interest:

The "Great Highland Bagpipe" has the distinction of being the only item classed as "an Instrument of War" by law.

When Allied Pipers were captured (very much "up front") in the front line, their Bagpipes were normally confiscated.

I think I may have mis-stated my purpose.

What I am looking for are the songs that sum up the experience of being a combat soldier. Maybe a different topic about the songs that motivate the troops before combat is in order.

Dire Strait's "Brothers In Arms" sounds to me, a non vet, that it sums up the special bond between soldiers who have been through a combat environment together... The other songs also speak to the purpose, the meaning of putting it all on the line for your country and most important, for your Brothers in Arms.

I hope I haven't made this into a murky mess. If so I apologize.

I hold all the Vets in the highest regard- you all have set a standard that my son can look to and aspire to!

OK- enough rambling...

Hey Murdo!

Nothing gets me as pumped up as when I hear Scotland the Brave on the bagpipes.
