Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I'm looking to redesign my spraybooth and I'm wondering what the opinion is about fume extractor placement..
Currently I have a booth that is 24" deep by 36" high by 36" wide, I like the added height for lighting as well as ease of work area.The extractor is mounted on top.
I am using a kitchen range hood for the extractor and am pleased with its performance as it does move alot of air but.....
I notice quite a bit of overspray/dust build up and although I clean it I'm still getting dust in the paint. Should I re configure the extractor to sit at the back of the booth as I have used in bigger commercial booths in the past, or downdraft, where the extractor sits upsidedown at the base of the booth as I've heard some other booths are configured?

I use a furnace filter in front of the fan so I can change it out when the overspray is to much. (I had to install the rails for the filter myself).

i built my own. I built a downdraft style with the fans mounted in the back / bottom. I too use a furnace filter (actually 2 stacked) as a filter. The vent tube runs up behind the booth and out ogf the basement.

I built mine as down-draft to avoid all the dust issues. The booth sits a bit high (I have to stand to brush) so the fan can exhaust out the window. I also use furnace filters between the paint area & the fan.

Since the topic is here... i was wondering if you guys came across any websites with pictures of how to DIY your own spraybooths?

I found a diagram for a painting booth that pretty much goes into detail on a real good booth, it also explains about how to much draw will pull dust from your room, and get on your work.

This all made good sense to me, they had the numbers per million and everything, but the one thing I did remember was to stay away from upper venting, that in time it could lead to also having dirt drop on your work.

They also had a vent to open so they could control the air flow over your work, so it wouldn't draw to much, I'll try to find it if you like, it shows all this plus the blue prints on how to make it, with the vent pipes and everything.
