My Uncle brought this back from Europe after W.W.II.
I've been told in the past that it is a German naval dress bayonet.
Any thoughts on it ?
Just above the hilt on the blade is a diamond shape with a Puma head and the cap. letters " PUMA " within the shape. Below that is the word SOLINGEN which is I believe the steel maker. It also has Bakelite herringbone type grips.
There is no attachment point on the hilt to attach it to a rifle.
The scabbard is black painted metal with a dark brown leather belt loop, no other markings.

What you have is a Short Bayonet by Puma-Werk of Solingen, Germany. More likely from one of the non-military services (Police or Fire).
For more on Dress Bayonets see: http://freespace.virgin.net/lew.shotton/german_dress_bayonets.htm
EDIT: From what I’ve seen and read, the Short Bayonets are usually worth more than the average Dress Bayonets (Not including the more ornate variants).
