I wonder how you would model these damaged gun barrels?

I agree with the technique for the bottom one, the top one, I think I would try a thick piece of lead foil. If you can't get any thick enough for your liking, successive layers should do the trick.

If I was going to do the first one I would thin the end of the barrel halves with my handy Dremel before they were glued together. Thin them from the inside and you ought to be able to score and "tear" the end to shape from the inside. I would try it with a spare plasitc barrel first, though.

I'm with Keenan on the "exploded" barrel do an inside job first, as for the second one , well you can tell from the weather that the barrel was stone cold when it was blown so it did not flute but instantly fractured so i woould cross hatch inside both barrel halves then assemble the barrel plub the muzzle end and fill with water then place it in the freezer for 24 hours. Remove it and place the barrel on a table edge with the muzzle overhanging the edge with however much barrel you want to remove and placing your hand over the rest of the barrel just whack it with a hammer and it will SNAP off just like the real thing.

Keenan beat me to the idea and Probuilder beat me to agreeing with Keenan! So I shall be Jeff-come-lately
and agree with both.
