Soon I will be packing my completed models and diorama's for a six-seven week boat trip to Canada as I have just been posted there.
I have to provide my own insurance for the frieght and was wondering if anyone has ever claimed for models damaged in transit?
I remember the guy who lost everything in the fire and wondered if he claimed for his (although probally they were quite low on his priority list at the time). Please share your thoughts on this
Cheers

I think you should clame any loss, not damages! But again...! Well, that's a difficult one, partner!!!
Cheers and happy modelling!

Your best bet is to ask the person who sells you the insurance. I know here in the States if you have something unusual and expensive it may not be covered unless you get a rider on your homeowners insurance policy. My brother for instance has a huge stereo. He had to get a rider to make sure everything was covered.

I would think it would either be so expensive as to the fragility of the models or they won't cover it. Just pack well and try to remove what fragile items you can. I did two transatlantic moves. Lots of little parts busted off, but I found them and reattached. wrap up item in a plastic bag, put in large box and pack those real tiny little pieces of styrofoam (Looks like snow)in the box. Or in some cases, give the models to some deserving friend and make new ones when you get to your new home. I had built 2 sailing ships and that's what I ended up doing.
You said posting so my assumptin you are in the military. The key question to me is...is this only or a few years or the rest of your life. If it's only for a few years and your models are highly treasured items...put them in storage. You box them and you move them.

When the USAF moved me from the UK back to the states i had over 200 1/35 finished kits. All were destroyed Uncle Sam paid for them (kit cost only) Take good pics of them and do get extra coverage on them as they WILL BE DAMAGED when you unpack your household goods GOOD LUCK
