I"m online at work, like I am 99% of the time. I have a job where I chat online with multiple customers at once. At least two. Because they may take a while to respond I can also multitask, like read my favorite websites. My company decided to "lock down" our computers so that we couldn't put unauthorized programs on them. Worse my computer was asking up so much they decided to give me another one. As a last straw they also upgraded me to XP, from 2000, something I've avoided for about four years. The upshot is that EVERYTHING is screwed up. I can't set the settings for fonts the way I want to in order to see my monitors properly, I can't use MSN anylonger, except for messenger, so I have to recreate all my favorites that I normally use in MSN. I can't listen to any of the 65 odd hours of music I had loaded to my old machine. As a last straw I find that the free spell check program I had on my old computer can't be put onto this one. So unless I want to write in Word, spell check, then cut and paste into the post, my spelling will be noticeably worse here than when I'm at home.

I know it's their computer, but this crap isn't going to increase my productivity in the slightest. This whole morning has been on complete waste of time. If they're trying to force me to quit, they're doing a great job of it.

Sorry to hear about that. That's why I'm happy that my computer doesn't even have Word! Or Excel, or XP, or even 2000! Thanks for your time.

Luckily the company I work for allows me to do almost anything I want with my computer

But... wait... we work for the same company!...

Is it coming this way?...

not sure how your msn is messed up? if you are refering too the standard one that comes with XP then you can go into options and disable it by unchecking the launch on detection of the net or launch on start up. That way it wont activate, then all you would need to do is install the version you are used too and alter the connection settings so that it activates when you start up your computer.

as for the free spell checker that you used, if you can remember the name of it why don't you have a look for it on http://www.download.com I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for there.

as for the music you lost, that has somehting to do with the licence agreements which basically means if it doesn't detect these ( you've probably downloaded the music from the net) then it wont play them. If however you have the originals on disk then stick them into the machine and up load them... time consuming but it can be left to up load un supervised.

hope this helps

The whole issue James is they will now only allow you to put certain programs on your computer. They also disable anything that's already there that they don't like. I had that spell checker before, but because it's not "approved" I can't load it back on.

Pawel I don't know if it's coming your way or not, but be afraid, be very afraid.

Rodger..... my IE6 has a built in spell checker, called IEspell. Just used it.... works fine, and I don't recall installing it, I believe it came when I upgraded to IE6.

( I normally use Netscape, with Webword, which is a small downloaded dictionary. But figured I scoot over to IE6 just to answer this post)....... :-)
