Gidday blokes.
Where do you fellas buy your kits from. I have been modeling for 3 years and mostly have bought kits from frontline hobbies in Newcastle. I lately have come across Hobby Hq who sell kits from melbourne but do not have a shop front.
Whats your views and who is the best and cheapests.

Mate I recently purchased 3 kits from Willy at Hobby HQ. I was amazed at just how quick I got the kits from him so the service is good. Prices are not bad and he does have some good specials.
I live 2 hours north of Brisbane and posted a money order to him on the Wednesday and the kits arrived from Melbourne on the following Monday. I normally do not purchase run of the mill kits as I scratchbuild a lot of mine but when and if I need others Hobby HQ will get my order.
I was under the impression that Willy does have a shop there but it is only open 2 or 3 days a week. However as I have never visited him I cannot be sure that this is true.
cheers
Cliff

Hobby HQ has a shop front in The Broadway, Reservoir and I have spent quite a bit of time browsing and usually buying kits I had no intention of buying. In fact I have only ever bought kits from Hobby HQ in person and not online.
The main online retailer in Victoria is NKR Models and Earl provides a very prompt and reliable service but doesn't carry the mainstream brands. NKR is currently selling metal barrels at half price but you have to buy at least $30 worth after the discount.
NKR is at: http://www.nkrmodels.com.au/
I also frequent Hearns Hobbies and the Victorian Hobby Centre in Melbourne's CBD, Metro Hobbies in Box Hill and another shop in Springvale Road, Mitcham(?) whose name escapes me at the moment.
I should also mention Hylands Bookshop in Melbourne's CBD. It's the largest military and transport history bookshop in the southern hemisphere and, while I shop there in person, I believe that it does have an online facility.

Hi all,
I'm from Melbourne and work in the city and if I'm not in a hurry for a kit, then I support Victorian Hobby Centre.
For ABER or CMK it's definitely Earl at NKR http://www.nkrmodels.com.au/
For ALCLAD II I go to Snowy Mountain Models http://www.smmodels.com/
For the harder to get decals and AM bits and pieces that I am in a hurry for I usually shop through Squadron http://www.squadron.com/ or Great Models http://www.greatmodels.com
Oh and David is correct Hylands is outstanding for military books.
Cheers

you are lucky to have a LHS (or 3 ) to pick from. Toys R Us in Mackay has just closed its model section and it now means that the local is Townsville or Rocky - 4 hours each way.
We are going to the Gold Coast during the September holidays and I have told SWMBO that I will need at least 1 full day of retail therapy in the Brissy model shops.

Brian you will have to drop into the shop and say G'day mate.
Shopping around for the best kit prices in Brisbane is fun. You get to see the whole city, and if SWMBA is with you there are plenty of cafe's and so forth to keep her interested as well.
Cheers Jason

Hobby HQ does have a ShopFront, he is based in The Braodway, Reservior, an inner suburb of Melbourne.
Willy only has the shop open a few hours a day but you send him an email or purchase of his website, he'll send you order.
Prior to my retirement I worked for Vic Hobby Centre and there mail order or shop stock / ordering is in need of major, major overhaul.

I get my plastic through Hobby Hq or Frontline , I tend to shop between the two . For aftermarket I get just about everything through Firestorm Hobbies mail order .If you get a lot of that stuff he has buyers elite which you can join & get around 25% off the price of his stock . I also get a fair bit through south east hobbies . One of the places mentioned above by others is notoriously poor with their service , the owner of which is just plain dishonest .So be careful when they ask for money upfront .
