Sup guys, yesterday I was at Rehobeth Beach in Deleware. I was walkin down the boardwalk and noticed somthing ive never seen before in my life. There was a neo-nazi guy walkin down the boardwalk with a "luftwaffe eagle" tatood on his left chest. Then to top it off he had a little SS insignia over on his right top chest right where it would be on your tunic. This was so funny, I couldnt resist to just walk up to him and confront him about it. OK, so I walk up to this guy, I go "Hey whats up buddy, I see you got a tatoo on your chest the one with the eagle". He just stares at me, I go well, if you knew your history SS didnt wear the eagle on their chest, and if you were to do it on your chest (which means hes not SS) it would be on the right side. He looked down at his chest, then looked up at me, I gave him a smile, and he walked off. You would think those kind of guys would know what they were tattooing. lol :-) I wonder how many german reenacters this guy has ran into, Im sure thats about as many times as this guy has been told the same thing.

Ciao Harrison,
You be careful around those idiots. He might might not take kindly to being corrected. Other than that, good on you!!
Ciao for now

I agree with Rob here. Those guys are not the kind of people you want to confront on ANYTHING! You are fairly lucky he didn't show you what he thought of your comment.

Stupidity...not really, just sheer ignorance and the need to find a group to fit into (it is much more complicated than that, I know, but I've done some studying on Neo-Nazis, and that is what a lot of what it comes down to for some).

I agree with you guys definatly. The guy wasnt very big. I also had my dad, and my uncle right next to me. So I really took my chances on that one.

Reminds me of being down @ the bike club many years ago. A new guy had come on a "streetfightered" bike, all camo colours etc, black & green. He'd chosen to put the 12SS HJ div mark on it. I said to him, hey I never the knew the Hitler Youth used Moto Guzzis! (The bike was at least 35 years too young for WW2.) I think a lot of these guys just see something they like that looks cool & stick it on. When someone recognises it 9 times out of 10 it freaks them out! There's a car I've seen locally that has the Das Reich kampfrune on it, I'll bet they've no idea what it represents.
Some time ago at work I was painting tac signs on a German Sdkfz 234/2. My workmate asked me why I was painting Nissan Micra symbols on it! :-) :-) :-)
So where did Nissan get the idea hmm?

Hohenstaufen, Alot, I MEAN ALOT, of veterans put bumper stickers signs, etc on around their house and on their car to show what unit they were in. I know a guy who has the 10th-SS symbol spray painted with a stencil on every box he has in his garage. Then on the back of his van hes got a bumper sticker, then his buisness cards say @frundsberg.com which was the name of his unit. So that sticker on the car very well might be owned by a veteran. One time I pulled up next to a biker on the back of his shirt it had the skull and cross bones over the SS insignia. I rolled down the window and said, "hey nice shirt" lol.

Harrison, the guy driving the 4X4 I saw wasn't old enough to be a genuine vet. I don't have a problem with you friend showing his unit insignia - he's earned it! I think however it would be pretencious of me to stick an H with a sword through it on my ride! :-) :-) :-)

I won't go into the subject of 'vets' proudly showing off the insignia from the SS units that they served in.... besides the fact that they would be at least 70+ years old by now...this is not something I have ever seen in either The Netherlands ( where any Dutch SS volunteers would probably keep that very quiet..) or in England. Can't imagine it in most European countries to be honest.

As for bikers displaying German insignia, this goes back to the beginning of the 'outlaw' biker gangs, many which were formed by Allied Vets who had returned from the war. Many felt disenfranchised by mainstream society upon their return, as, especialy in America, life had gone on as normal, and the vets where not catered for at all. They where supposed to get of the boat and forget what they went through and get on with life. Not the last time that happened.. The German insignia were trophies which they brought back from Europe, and were worn to show #1 that they had been there, and #2 were a means of showing their contempt for the mainstream population. Most popular were the Iron Cross and the Skull and Bones. Vets yes, but not ex SS.

In short, if you see somebody displaying SS or other WW II (Nazi or not) insignia, I very much doubt he's a vet. More like an individual who wants to make a statement, whatever that statment may be..
